What's going on with my friends skin?

My best friend recently had weight loss surgery, and her skin looks really bad. Underneath her stomach she has this shiny, dark, wrinkly looking skin. It kind of looks like a burn, but it's not. The darkened skin has spread to her upper thigh. It looks very dark, and shiny. She showed it to me, and I'm worried.

What could this be?

She asked me to add that it doesn't itch, burn, or anything like that. She first noticed it when she was walking, and it was hurting in the area.
Answers: Not to be an alarmist, but it sounds to me like it's possible that the skin is damaged or dying. This sometimes happens after surgery as a result of infection or when something is damaged and skin stops getting the right blood supply. My mom works with patients who have had problems like this, and though I've never seen it in person, that's a bit what it sounds like to me. It's also possible it could be infected.

In any case, ANY kind of situation where a wound looks like it isn't healing properly needs to be VERY promptly addressed. She should go to the doctor or emergency room as soon as possible. Often people think things like this will "just get better," or that it isn't serious, or just simply don't know what's good and healthy and what's not, and when they wait the problems can get much more serious. Answers: This is my theory and this is what works for me. Everyone is different so it may need to be adjusted to your own personal needs.

Energy In/Energy Out

Food Intake: 1,200 Per Day

One Pound equals 3,500 Calories

To loose one pound per day, You need to burn your food intake plus your one pound of fat

1,200 (intake) + 3,500 (Outtake) = 4,700 Calories Burn

You must burn at least 4,700 Calories everyday to loose one pound at least. It is very easy to go up and beyond 4,700 calories each day.

Best way to do this is to track your progress on a calorie counter monitor watch. If you do it by the numbers you can loose the weight. It is just a matter of changing the way you think about weight loss.

Once you start wearing your calorie counter you can see the numbers increase and you fill find yourself doing extra things in your day, like tapping your foot while waiting at the light in your car, chewing gum, singing out loud and so on onto of your workout routines. You begin to see that everything you do in your day contributes to the overall numbers needed to loose that pound.

I, myself, have done this recently. Two weeks later, I lost one pant size and 10 pounds. And that is just my current progress. I have used this method previously after childbirth and have gone from 168 to 127 pounds with in two months.

I personally burn 1,000 calories by Walking in my community for one hour in the morning and I also burn 1,000 calories by simply using a stationary bike while playing xbox. I get so involved in playing xbox that I completely forget I am pedaling or working out. Think about it..How many hours have you spent playing video games..why not burn calories while you are doing it.

Water Intake/Less Storage

Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 to 80 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.

Good Food

My favorite things to eat:

Avocado Wraps

Simple: Low Carb Tortilla, Half Avocado sliced, alpha sprouts, lettuce, soy bacon...Just wrap it up and eat. You can vary the things you put inside so long as you keep it to approx 4 or 5 items. You want to make sure they are fresh, low calorie and filling. Avocado and mushrooms can replace meats in your meal and still have great taste.

Special K Cereals are fantastic. They have that sweetness that one craves and is so good for you. Calories are low. Great for even just dinner.

First thing in the morning...A Glass of Chocolate Milk. Yup!! Chocolate Milk. We all crave that "got to have" item in the morning. Milk is the best thing you can have for yourself while working out. The chocolate (and you can use Carnation Instant Milk for this but I simply use Nestle dry mix) will give you that sweet "snack" that you need. If you give your body a little bit of it and its in a control way, you will not crave sweets and junk the rest of the day.

Lean Cuisines

Fantastic food! Each meal is approx 180 t0 380 calories per box. So think about your calories. 1,200...You can still have several of these meals a day and still be under your intake requirements.

It’s all about the numbers and watching what you take in and what you burn out. And you know what..If you go over your 1,200 mark for food intake...that’s okay...you simple up your total calories burned for the day by what you took it. So long as you burn off the over all calories to be more than your food intake. Just make sure you stick too it so you can reach your weight loss goals.

Bananas are my favorite. They are very filling and can make a meal all on their own.

Vitamins

My favorite is ONE A DAY WITH ENERGY...I am in love with this vitamin because I am just like everyone else who loves those quick fix energy drinks. But what people do not realize is that energy drinks can contain 120 to 440 calories in just ONE Can. If you think about it..That is HALF of your allowed calories for food intake. The best alternative I have found is One a day with energy vitamin. Easy to spot, it is packaged in a green label bottle. Just One vitamin a day will give you as much energy as approx. 1 1/2 cans of red bull...WITHOUT the calorie intake.
WoW..now your making progress already because you have made more room in your intake calories for actual healthy food.

Soda/Carbonation

Carbonation is terrible for your system because it bloats your stomach. And when your stomach bloats, your jeans just don't fit. You can drop one pant size simply by NOT drinking any carbonated drinks all together..Take away the bloat and you have instantly just made it one pant size lower. Besides, Sodas dehydrate you and with that One a Day Vitamin, you won't need the Caffeine in the soda and it will also cut out those extra calories that you don't need.
So remove that soda and the energy drinks and just think how much calories you just instantly removed from your daily intake. I normally consume what...four sodas and two energy drinks in one day...that is a total of .... 900 calories. Of what? Nothing...Those are horrible calories and calories that can be replaced by food which will fuel your body for your day and your workouts.

Your Body

Your body is like a computer. You must program your body to do what it is suppose to do so it won't crash and leave you with a virus. Your stomach is only the size of your fist. So think about it right now, Look at your hand and close your fist. Not very big is it. That is how much food you actually ONLY need to eat, each time you eat for every meal. If you eat anything more than that, you will stretch out your stomach which causes overeating and overweight.

What you need to do is eat every three hours, approx 5 to 7 times everyday around the same time. If you are always giving your body healthy and better food choices (the size of your fist) every three hours, your body will know you are giving it food. It will use that food properly. It will not go into starvation mode or store food away for later because it knows...it will get more in three hours. So what does your body do...it flushes everything out of your system because it doesn't need it.. Now it knows...you wont' forget about it and that food is on its way.

Walking Buddy

This is the best thing especially for woman. Get a walking buddy. One hour everyday. Just think about how much talking, venting and laughing two woman can do together while walking and yup, you guessed it...it just burns more calories and reduces your stress. You now are more relaxed because you can talk and free yourself of whatever is frustrating you while getting into shape.
If you want to reduce your weight, you need to do a lot of exercise to accelerate your metabolism. It's better if you do cardiovascular exercise, because this kind of exercise helps you burn fat...



You should begin with a good eating plan, combining fats and sweets with fruits and vegetables. It will be better if you drink at least eight glasses of water daily to control your calories and your cholesterol.



If you want you can use some pills to control your weight and to accelerate the process of burning fat.



I know some pills which you can use to reduce your weight. Those pills are Xenical and Hoodia. Their results are excellent and fast.

then see your results:
18.5 or less Underweight
18.5 to 24.99 Normal Weight
25 to 29.99 Overweight
30 to 34.99 Obesity (Class 1)
35 to 39.99 Obesity (Class 2)

How to get ripped abs? or just good core muscles?

any exercises links or anything that help? how do you get the fat from the sides of your stomach?
Answers: there's no such thing as spot fat reduction...

the only way to get ripped abs is to lower your overall body fat... men generally 8-10%BF or less, women 16-20%BF or less

to get ripped abs you must burn more calories than you eat.... next week write everything you eat and drink down, everything! Add up your exercise and rest caloric usage and figure out what you need to do... either exercise more or eat less... generally, more exercise is better as it will build muscle, which in turn looks sexy and burns more fat

dieting eats away at both muscle and fat... this generally makes a girl unattractive... girls are supposed to be soft and shapely not bone chisled

I got ripped abs in about 9 months.,
a good training for side muscles is that when you go and lay down, near a wall. lift your feet up against the wall as your upper body is on the floor. then fell your feet to right or left
and lift them so slow as possible.
This will hopefully help you with your abs.

How long will it take to build muscles in my legs and thighs if...?

I do spinning at the gym for about an hour. Three days a week

I'm a young women of 5'6.5 in height and I weight about 150 pounds
Answers: thats great that you are keeping it "real" to see muscles you should "change" your spinning habits, by this I mean, increase one day the resistance for a lot (so you get the burning sensation in your legs) next day try to do low resistance, the other day mix it a bit.
I think if you maintain it like taht and change it so your muscles dont get use to it. It will take you 4-6 weeks.
Also, if you can, lets say you work out M-W-F, then nothing on sat and sun. On sunday do squats, or one leg squat (that has helped me tremendously) not only for my legs but now I can go faster on my bike. So I recommend some strenght training too.
So you do, 3 reps of squats (20) 3 reps of quads (20) 3 reps of butt (20), etc.
spinning is aerobic exercise. to build muscle in your legs you must do anaerobic exercise ie. weights. I would do squats, along with spinning. then add the leg press after a week of squats with spinning. it works. I use to teach spinning and I am a exercise physiologist. have a great day

What should I do to get six pack abs?

what food should i eat? what food should i prevent from eating? what type of exercise to get six pack abs?

Answers: It's good to eat foods with alot of protein and carbs. So just eat moderately a good balanced diet and if you stop eating around 6 or 7 that'll help lose some weight. No junk food of course and nothing too heavy. I recommend alot of running and using some free weights when doing sit ups. Try going to the gym and running the treadmill, olympic glyder, step ladder, and the bike for 15-20 minutes each back to back and then doing some abs on the ab ball arterwards remember to drink lots of water.

You should eat healthy foods... running & crunches have helped me... stay away from salt and sugar... =0)

but if you dont already have some kind of muscle showing its going to take a while to get the results you want just gotta have patients!

I read some where that Brittney Spears did 500 crunches daily before she dated Justin Timberlake so just an idea of how many =0)
Drink lots of 6-packs? And if you're really good, you'll also eventually develop a right arm like Rod Laver!

Reps, dude....reps is the name of the game. Find the exercises (not hard) and dedicate. Despite what the sales ads want you to believe, 6-packs might come in bottles, but washboard abs DON'T!! Like most things in life, it takes work.

Master cleanse?

i have been recently hearing about this "master cleanse" or lemonade diet". apparantly it helps you lose weight and detox yourself. i was wondering if it works. does anybody have any experiences or advice. are there any snacks you can eat without interferring with your diet?

Answers: I've done the master cleanse. You are going to be tired during your cleanse, you won't have the energy to run. I went to the gym one time during my cleanse and I was so sore for days afterwards. There is nothing in your body to help you rebuild your muscles and you PAY for it. Don't exercise on your fast. Maybe walk on the treadmill, that's it.

The point of the cleanse is just that, to cleanse. Putting creatine and cellmass in your body will ruin the effects of the cleanse and it may throw your system out of whack. Don't put anything in your body except the lemonade.

You really shouldn't chew gum, as it has chemicals in it and the point of the cleanse is to get all that junk out of your body. But you may be craving some kind of taste in your mouth, so I say go for it. I did.

I felt great after my cleanse and I lost a lot of weight too (I gained it all back though). Unless you are going to do it properly, ie. drinking the lemonade and ONLY the lemonade, don't do it because you will not reap any benefits from it otherwise. And as far as the beer goes, it'll make you gain weight like crazy. Your metabolism will be so low during your fast that you won't burn those beers off at all, they'll go straight to your belly.
Fad diets don't work. Exercise and eat sensibly and your weight will stabilize at a level that is right for you.

Is it possible to only lose weight in my stomache and not anywhere else?

Answers: when you lose weight....it's overall, u can't target approach it. i learned this from losing 90 lbs....
The way not to do it is starve yourself, to start with. Just exercise and eat right. I did....lost 90 LBS because of it. Starving yourself won't help at all. Drink more water, eat less before bed, and don't eat for stress are the 3 things I follow and i'm going pretty well if i don't say myself. 90 LBS isn't anything like 5-10lbs so take my advice. impossible. you can not target fat loss as it occurs all over the body. when it does occur your genetics determines where fat is burned from first and last. the exercises that you perform and the diet that you follow has absolutely no effect on that.

What is the quickest & most efficient way for a guy to lose the fat in his gut & on the sides of his stomach?

I'm not fat fat but I fear that I will be getting there if I don't stop it now. I'm 5'8, 165lbs which isn't too bad for a guy.

I'm just starting to form a gut and get the fat on the sides of my stomach, much like how a woman's hips will poke out a little. What is the quickest and most efficient way for me to lose the fat in these places.

In high school I played football and basketball so I was always active and I'm not so much anymore. I'd like to get back the 6-pack that I used to have.

The show called this diet 'evolutionary' diet'.

Add yoga to it and I bet you'll be in shape for almost any demanding sport.
Do not eat Junk Food, Big Macs etc Pizzas, fried oily or

First of all stop fat; stop eating fat, by doing that you could lose some weight. then the normal exercises, i am sorry bob but no vibrant belt or pack will help you, exercise outside or in a gym is the quickest way to lose fat.

Why do i see athletic women have legs wider then my legs and fat arms?

I am 6ft and 237l.b. I am chuby and i have muscles but when i see big women that are not fat but naturaly big.Girls who play basket ball or volley ball or are swimiers have fat or wide arms and legs.There calf are bigger then mine there thighs are also biger then mine and also there arms are biger but soft and cuddily at the same time.Is it fat or muscles?
Answers: if you see athletic with "more" muscle than you and you weigh 237 lbs you don't have as much muscle on your body as you think and your body fat is probably much higher than you think.

on average women produce 1/10 the amount of testosterone as men do. it's very, very hard for them to build muscle let alone a comparable amount to a man over 200 lbs.
Its like seeing a 150 pound woman who's 5'3. If you have two women one of which is more muscular and leaner than the second person who is all flabby and fat then technically the person who is 150 pounds will still look leaner than the second one. Fat takes up more space than muscle. You can tell if a person is muscular because first of all they'll have some definition and tone - a fat person is basically just flabby. Women dont get that big actually. when I was fat I used to think it was mostly muscle but as I got leaner I realized how small and scrawny I was..

Why can't kids just effing behave in stores?

they run a muck and knock crap over scream and break things and act like complete a.ssholes while the parents do nothing

If anyone says anything, just tell them you noticed that they weren't being a parent, so you thought you'd take over.
For one not all children do that, and I really think you need to seek help. Kids are more free at this age, and it isn't just usually kids that are the wild ones. Teens are too, you don't ever see a 2 year old getting kicked out of a store, it is usually a teen.

Some parent's aren't capable of controlling their children.

Of course not all children behave like that! And it's not always bad parenting. How about the stores displaying things prominently where kids can see them and scream that they want them? Chocolate at the checkouts, chips and snakes always on the lower shelves etc etc. Blame the business analysts - not the kids all the time.

Weight problems! confused.?

i constantly battle every day with my weight i am 5 ft 6 (170cm)and weigh about 60kg and i battled with eating disorders growing up i use to be 49kg and now i cant tell if i need to loose weight! i have been a track athlete, running every day since i was 14 and must be muscly is it true that muscle weighs a lot more than fat? i have broad shoulders too and i hate it! im sick of my friends telling me im skinny cause i know its not true it can't be if im 60 + kg! i feel like people just tell me i look good because i use to be sick!
any advice? any personal experiences?!
Answers: Weight loss is really quite simple; there are only two things you need do to reach your goals:

1. Restrict daily calories to 1600 calories per day. By increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat, you will be able to keep your intake at this level without feeling hungry or uncomfortable.

2. Exercise for one hour a day, every single day. It can be anything from pilates to just plain walking, but do it. One hour. Every day.

This is a pretty simple recipe for weight loss, but it works. It has worked for me; I have lost 62 pounds this way. It will work for you if you commit to it and stick to it.
