Diet Fitness Questions and Answers
I want to lose 20 lbs. How long will it take?
I am 141 lbs and am 5'1". I have been walking for 45 minutes a day 5 days a week for 4 weeks and have only lost a couple of pounds. My goal is to lose 20 lbs, but I really want to know how long that would take to do. I do not see the scale going down but people have commented that I have lost weight so I am losing inches. YEAH! If someone can help me that would be totally appreciated.Answers: 1st of all you did not gain any muscle. No one gains muscle by walking for 4 weeks. 2nd, weight loss occurs when you burn more calories than you consume, simple as that. While walking is better than sitting, it a very mild form of exercise. During the walks you aren't burning many calories maybe 200 nowhere near 1000. So you must eat less.
Without getting into all that goes into fitness and/or weight loss. You either need to do more strenuous exercise or eat less and better... or both.
Sounds like you have gained muscle and lost fat, which doesn't result in a lot of weight loss on the scale. I would suggest getting your body fat accurately measured and keep doing that every few weeks or so.
Maybe try cutting about 500 calories a day from your diet, in addition to your exercising. You should be able to lose at least 1 pound a week that way. Try some different exercises then walking, your body is probably used to the same walk everyday, so your body is becoming efficient and not burning as many calories. Or try to mix some light jogging and/or adding some hills to your walk.
Good luck!
Okay...Here we go!
This is my theory and this is what works for me. Everyone is different so it may need to be adjusted to your own personal needs.
Energy In/Energy Out
Food Intake: 1,200 Per Day
One Pound equals 3,500 Calories
To loose one pound per day, You need to burn your food intake plus your one pound of fat
1,200 (intake) + 3,500 (Outtake) = 4,700 Calories Burn
You must burn at least 4,700 Calories everyday to loose one pound atleast. It is very easy to go up and beyond 4,700 calories each day.
Best way to do this is to track your progress on a calorie counter monitor watch. If you do it by the numbers you can loose the weight. It is just a matter of changing the way you think about weight loss.
Once you start wearing your calorie counter you can see the numbers increase and you fill find yourself doing extra things in your day, like tapping your foot while witing at the light in your car, chewing gum, singing outloud and so on ontop of your workout routines. You begin to see that everything you do in your day contributes to the overall numbers needed to loose that pound.
I myself have done this recently. Two weeks later, I lost one pant size and 10 pounds.
I personally burn 1,000 calories by Walking in my community for one hour in the morning and I also burn 1,000 calories by simply playing xbox while playing tetrus. I get so involved in playing xbox that I completely forget I am pedaling or working out. Think about it..How many hours have you spent playing video games..why not burn calories while you are doing it.

Water Intake/Less Storage
Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.
Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.

Good Food
My favorite things to eat:
Avacado Wraps
Simple: Low Carb Tortilla, Half Avacdo sliced, alpha sprouts, lettuce, soy bacon...Just wrap it up and eat. You can vary the things you put inside so long as you keep it to approx 4 or 5 items. You want to make sure they are fresh, low calorie and filling. Avacado and mushrooms can replace meats in your meal and still have great taste.
Special K Cereals are fantastic. They have that sweetness that one craves and is so good for you. Calories are low. Great for even just dinner.
First thing in the morning...A Glass of Chocolate Milk. Yup!! Chocolate Milk. We all crave that "got to have" item in the morning. Milk is the best thing you can have for yourself while working out. The chocolate (and you can use Carnation Instant Milk for this but I simply use Nestle dry mix) will give you that sweet "snack" that you need. If you give your body a little bit of it and its in a control way, you will not crave sweets and junk the rest of the day.
Lean Cusines
Fantastic food! Each meal is approx 180 t0 380 calories per box. So think about your calories. 1,200...You can still have several of these meals a day and still be under your intake requirements.
Its all amout the numbers and watching what you take in and what you burn out. And you know what..if you go over your 1,200 mark for food intake...thats okay...you simple up your total calories burned for the day by what you took it. So long as you burn off the over all calories to be more than your food intake. Just make sure you stick too it so you can reach your weight loss goals.
Fruits and Veggies
All you want on the schedule listed below.
Banana's are my favorite. They are very filling and can make a meal all on their own.
____
Vitamins
My favorite is ONE A DAY WITH ENERGY...I am in love with this vitamin because I am just like everyone else who loves those quick fix energy drinks. But what people do not realise is that energy drinks can contain 120 to 440 calories in just ONE Can. If you think about it..That is HALF of your allowed calories for food intake. The best alternative I have found is One a day with energy vitamin. Easy to spot, it is packaged in a green label bottle. Just One vitamin a day will give you as much energy as approx. 1 1/2 cans of red bull...WITHOUT the calorie intake.
WoW..now your making progress already because you have made more room in your intake calories for actual healthy food.
_____
Soda/Carbination
Carbination is terrible for your system because it bloats your stomach. And when your stomach bloats, your jeans just don't fit. You can drop one pant size simply by NOT drinking any carbinated drinks all together..Take away the bloat and you have instantly just made it one pant size lower. Besides, Sodas dehydrate you and with that One a Day Vitamin, you won't need the Caffenie in the soda and it will also cut out those extra calories that you don't need.
So remove that soda and the energy drinks and just think how much calories you just instantly removed from your daily intake. I normally consume what...four sodas and two energy drinks in one day...that is a total of .... 900 calories..Of what? Nothing...Those are horrible calories and calories that can be replaced by food which will fuel your body for your day and your workouts.
____
Your Body
Your body is like a computer. You must program your body to do what it is suppose to do so it won't crash and leave you with a virus. Your stomach is only the size of your fist. So think about it right now, Look at your hand and close your fist. Not very big is it. That is how much food you actually ONLY need to eat, each time you eat for every meal. If you eat anything more than that, you will stretch out your stomach which causes overeating and overweight.
What you need to do is eat every three hours, approx 5 to 7 times everyday around the same time. If you are always giving your body healthy and better food choices (the size of your fist) every three hours, your body will know you are giving it food. It will use that food properly. It will not go into starvation mode or store food away for later because it knows...it will get more in three hours. So what does your body do...it flushes everything out of your system because it doesn't need it.. I Now knows...you wont' forget about it and that food is on its way.
____
Walking Buddy
This is the best thing especially for woman. Get a walking buddy. One hour everyday. Just think about how much talking, venting and laughing two woman can do together while walking and yup, you guessed it...it just burns more calories and reduces your stress. You now are more relaxed because you can talk and free yourself of whatever is frustrating you while getting into shape.

The problem sounds like you havent adjusted your diet. To lose weight faster adjust your diet, reduce your carbs substantially replace it with protein, also make sure no carbs after 4pm and consider jogging versus walking. Walking will not increase your metabolism since the intensity levels are not the same as jogging.
How often should I get on my Eliptical Machine?
Hi! My husband just surprised me with an eliptical machine yesterday (YAY!), and I am not sure how often I should use it and for how long each time. First a little background: I am 23 years old, 5'4", 143 lbs, WAY out of shape (even though I don't look like it, I get winded just walking up the couple flights of stairs to my apartment!!), I have a 2 year old son, I sit at work all day, and then I come home and sit on the couch all evening watching TV. Also, I eat a lot of high calorie foods and sweets (but I drink mostly water, and one can of Diet Coke a day). I am not willing to change my diet (at least not yet!), but I am willing to work out as much as it takes to get more energy and improve my flabby body. Anyway, I need to know how many days a week I should use my machine starting out, and for how long each time. I used it last night for one of the 20 minute programs, and I almost died! Seriously, I was thisclose to falling off when the time was up! I am not sore at all today!Answers: I am the same age and height as you. I have been going to the gym allot lately and the personal trainer told me you have to do 30 min or more. Before 30 min you are just warming up your body but after 30 min you start burning fat. It might take you a few days for you to get your body into the shape to stay on longer.....It is also normal to be sore the next day. Just make sure your not letting your upper body lean on the machine. Stand straight and keep your abs pulled in. That makes a huge difference.
I love the precor eliptical at the gym.
You want to work up to doing 1 hour every day on that thing if you want to see great results. The first half hour just gets the metabolism pumping and the second half hour is where the fat burning comes in.
Its really good for having a rock hard butt and legs.
3-4 times a week - for 20-30 mins - increase slowly
After dinner try going for a 20-30 min walk on the opposite nights.
Good luck with it! Have fun! Keep track of your efforts - little gold stars are a great motivator... even for adults! :)
lets to make things simple assume you start your training week on a monday...then for optimum results it should look something like this
Monday — Interval Training — perform 8 to 10 fast 45-second intervals with 1-minute recovery periods in between.
Wednesday — Fast Paced — perform 20 minutes of continuous activity at 75-80% of your heart rate max.
Friday — Continuous Low Intensity — perform 50 minutes of continuous cardio at 60-70% of your heart rate max.

What is this hydrolized protein?
i saw this hydrolyzed whey protein I think.. in the market .. what is it? Is it worth buying for bodybuilding?Answers: you dont need protein for bodybuilding unless you are badly malnourished, most people have more then enough protein in there diets already ,vegetarians may have some problems with protein intake. you need to increase your carb intake and cut out fats but forget about the protein supplements its just marketing most of the protein is stored as fat anyway and it is only butnt is you are dieing of starvation.
Hydrolyzed whey protein is a new form of whey protein that has some extra benefits compared to old whey protein concentrates that clumped when mixed, not to mention terrible taste! Hydrolyzed whey proteins digest very fast and cause for little to know stomach upset what so ever. The hydrolysis of ammino acid pepties in the proteins has them almost completly broken down before they even hit your stomach. Hence they break down much quicker and enter the blood stream pretty darn quickly. The issue is that it does taste more bitter then conventional proteins so its typicaly added in with a combo of other protein types to make it more pallitable. I have not used a Hydrolyzed protein myself (too pricy!), I use protein isolates for myself and for my other strength power athletes. Feedback is good!
How i gain my wait? what is the daily food table?
Answers: you need protein, not just fat. working out and then eating a high protein diet will do the trick. i gained 10 pounds of muscle by working out and eating protein bars and other good foods that have protien
http://www.mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/index...
(Warning, though, for me, they said I should aim for 2000 calories per day. I eat about 1200 calories per day, and that's plenty for me, I always feel very full. I'm not thin, and I'm not fat. So... take the results with a grain of salt, and just follow the proportion of each type of food. Eg: eat more veggies than meat and grains.
Protein, protein, protein and carbs. Keep fats and sugars low. Try to take in atleast 4000 cal./day. Alot of tuna, boneless/skinless chicken breasts, turkey, ham, pasta, milk and fruit. Plus you have to work out, and get some Kre-alkalyn (creatine) to help build muscle. Otherwise all that protein will go to waist and the carbs will turn to fat.

Help! I've got the runs,?
yesterday i decided to go veg. it is working, i've never felt better, but now i have the runs, is this normal? will it stop once my body gets use to the change?Answers: Thank you for deciding to go veg! I've been veg for over 10 years and don't remember having that problem when I had just started. It sounds like your body has to adjust to the change. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would also recommend talking with your doctor or contacting a vegetarian organization. I have a page that focuses on vegetarianism on my website that may help you.

Eat lots of potatoes, nuts, & bread to balance it out.
You'll have a LOT of gas forever too. Especially with things in the broccoli/cabbage family, and beans.
Yes, you have shocked you intestines with all this natural fiber and its not used to it. This is actually good for your system, it help clean the intestine out of bad bacteria.
It might take 2-3 days for you body to fully adjust but no longer. If by the second day you are not seeing much improvement then you might add a few banana's to the mix or some cheese. This will help slow down the diarrhea.
drink plenty of water and have some eggs, boiled or fried. eggs binds the food together in ur stomach, helping it solidify and eventually speeding up the recovery. good luck!
i have gettin the runs! :-s
One side effect of eating a lot of fresh produce is often gas and loose stools. Yes, it will pass when your body gets used to it (the loose stools anyway). If you have trouble with gas, try a product like Beano or something to help eliminate that.
How many calories do i consume when i walk a kilometer?
i dont know if these info r important, i'm 75Kg ( 160 lb ) and 173Cmand if i run a kilometer ??
Answers: Calories burned varies depending on the speed you walk. There's a calculator at the link below that can help you figure how many calories you burn doing various activities, based on your size and the duration you participate in the activity... http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie...
It is the distance you travel, not whether you walk or run that matters. If you run you finish faster so the rate you are burning calories balances out.
I takes about 100 calories to cover 1 mile, so doing 1K is going to use about 60 calories.
There are slight variances depending on your weight, but it is not enough to matter.

What should be called as healthy diet ?
i want information about what a healthy person should eat?Answers: do not trust fast food links, even subways, that says there's healthy.
A healthy diet is a low fat , low carbs. Leaving white bread alone. Using 100% whole wheat bread, small portions of lean meat, such as chicken, grilled or baked. Green veggies, such as salads with light dressings or 1/2 cup breen beans.1 starchy vegetable at a meal, such as 1/2 cup whole kernal corn or small baked potatoe. 1 cup 1% milk. Small fruit, such as an orange, or 1/2 cup fruit without sugar. 1 fat, such as light margarine. Dessert, 1/2 cup sugar free Jello with a dab of light Cool Whip.
This is a very good healthy diet that our dietition put us on. It will help you to lose weight and you still get plenty food! As a woman, I eat four carbs a meal. My husband eats five carbs .
at a meal.
Example: 1 slice of wholewheat bread= 1 carb
1/2 cup corn = 1 carb
1 small fruit = 1 carb
1 cup lowfat milk = 1 carb
Hope this will help you. Good luck and happy eating!
Long term weight loss?
I always hear the best way to lose weight is diet and exercise but what kind of diet and exercise is best? I really want to lose some 50 pounds and do it right, but what is right? Where can I get a plan?Answers: Good for you for using a common sense approach to losing some weight. You're going to find that you're one of those people that will lose the weight and keep it off over the long term. A lot of people don't realize that it took time to put the weight on and it will take some time and dedication to take it off. This is what worked for me...Eat what you like. Just keep it to1200 calories a day (healthier is better obviously) and sweat and I mean SWEAT!! for 30-40 minutes a day 6-7 days a week. Walking (fast), jogging is a great way to burn off those unwanted pounds, as well as jumping rope, aerobics, lo weight hi rep weightlifting ect. Just find something you enjoy and will stick with. Write down everything you eat with calorie content. This will give you an overall look at where you need to make changes. Don't eat after 6 pm ever. Don't cheat, you're only fooling yourself and don't skip workouts. You should be losing about between 2-3 pounds a week, which is a healthy rate without starving yourself and will give lasting results...Good luck!

When you can be happy losing 1 to 2 pounds a week at the MOST, then you will be able to achieve long term weight loss. Plan on 9 to 12 months to lose that weight. Just cut 500 calories a day from your diet and exercise, and you will be well on your way.
Good luck!
Well consider there are so many diets that promise to help you lose weight, most people decide to change their diet around the new year for a new year's resolution. I read something interesting that I did not realize that makes a lot of sense; Its actually bad to diet around that time of year because the days are shorter and your seratonin levels are lower so you are less apt to work out or exercise plus you will want to eat more frequently especially if there is constant bombardment of tv ads with food on it. Why do you think people snack so much, that subconscious signal telling us to eat when we see something that appeals to one of our basic needs. Its better to diet during the summer, the days are longer and if you stay active it actually supresses your appetite. Dont get me wrong you will still be hungry but you will be working out more so you body will feed off of the energy you are using so you can eat healthily or not at all times and work out and feel good.
For me I am not overweight but I have put on a few pounds around my waist and I want to get rid of it and I started to play Tennis after 7 years of not playing it. Because of my current job I am in a very sedentary lifestyle now and Tennis is the only exercise I get but its fun. I would recommend doing something you enjoy or it would be easy to talk yourself out of it.
