Sore abs after situps?
Well the other day i did 100 sit ups, in sets of 25. Im a little overweight and stuff and was out of shape, now my abs starting to get sore. I read up and some say to go that it means its being affected some others say its better to rest... what should i do? I wanna get abs, being overweight i can lose some stomach from it hopefully (yes i also jog and such too)Answers: Well, first, let me say sit ups do not get rid of flab. Sit ups build muscle, so you are doing that. The only way to get rid of 'flab' is to do cardio workouts. I see that you tagged on the jogging thing, but I want to make sure this part is clear with you, because it seems to be an afterthought of your goal, when it should really be your focus until you lose the fat.
Second, you probably did to many. A little sore the next day is fine, you should rest every other day. If it hurts into a second day, you are doing to many for the shape you are in, and you should cut back a little. If you work the muscles too hard, they don't have time to repair after you tear them (that is what you are doing with weight lifting etc.), and you actually lose muscle mass.
I would suggest, to begin, you do two or three sets of ten. I know that doesn't seem like much, but when you are out of shape it is actually doing a lot. I would meanwhile, focus on the 'jogging and such' because that is how you lose fat.
Sore abs is normal in that situation. Your abs aren't used to doing work. The more you work them, the more accustomed they will become to work.
Edit: Also, it is unhealthy to work the same muscle group every day. If you work upper body one day, do lower body the next, then the next day go back to upper body.
Crunches are an exercise that you can do everyday. However, you may want to do 100 one day and on the following day only do about 50, then go back to 100. Your strata tears and regroups when you do exercises (this is how muscles get bigger). So, you don't want to overwork it too much. You do have to give your body a chance to heal.
Regards,
Brandon
Instead of sit-ups, try crunches, and reverse crunches....for the soreness, try stretching your abdominal muscles...yes there is a way to do that, try some yoga
Can you stop growing if you do weights?
Answers: This is absolutely FALSE. What does inhibit growth is damage to the childs growth plates before they have had a chance to fuse.
Growth plate damage is actually common when one experiences sudden trauma like falling or being hit extremely hard on the leg. Also, activities such as Gymnasts who practices for hours on the uneven bars and long-distance runners injure growth plates due to overuse.
The reason bodybuilders/powerlifters tend to be shorter has to do with the biomechanics of weight lifting. A shorter frame has a shorter distance to move the weight thus making it easier to lift heavy weights that build the muscle. Besides, I don't think anyone would say Arnold Schwarzenneger is short and he was one of the best.
Also, about 99.99% of long distance runner are very tall and lean, yet it's silly to think running makes you taller. It's just the mechanics of the body they were built for running and shorter people are more suited for lifting.
Yeah, and also if you have sex too young!!
And if you eat too much sugar and starch!!
And if you sass your parents too much!!

Lose weight?
Well I am really stressed out and want to lose weight. The only thing that's stopping me is the vast amount of school work that I have to do. I can't find time to exercise, only sometimes. How can I still lose weight? Actually, I have dance rehearsal a lot, but I feel it's still not enough because after dance I eat and then sit and do homework.Help?
Answers: If you aren't getting much exercise then the best thing to do is to reduce your caloric intake (don't eat so much). But it goes beyond that- you really need to pay attention to what you're eating. Simply reducing your calories, but still eating high fat, unhealthy foods is going to get you nowhere. So watch what you eat, make sure it's healthy and try and fit in exercise whenever you can. I know it's hard- I'm a full time student and I work too, so I understand completely! Refer to sites like weight watchers or eDiets or even health/fitness magazines for advice on healthy eating.
Use a timer; work 30 to 45 minutes on hwk, then get up and walk around, do some stretches, whatever it takes to get the blood pumping. Then re set the timer and go back to work on hwk. One person I know sets the timer for 15 minutes,
works 45, then takes 15 minutes off for a walk. Says it helps her stay focused to have the timer going off every 15 minutes,
she doesn't waste as much time, and tries to finish an assignment in one or 2 15 minute blocks.

I have the exact same problem you do. My amount of schoolwork is massive, and I generally spend about 3-5 hours outside of class working on it EVERY DAY.
However, I've been controlling my weight by forcing myself to exercise. Instead of looking for a parking space close to my school building, I park at a friend's house about half a mile away, or at the far end of the parking lot. I take the stairs as often as possible, and push myself to walk faster to make up for the time I lose by parking far away and not using the elevator.
I know it sounds really basic, but I've lost nearly ten pounds since August by doing this.
My field is in fashion, as a result many people ask me how they can slim down. My answer is always the same: good diet and exercise. But I found this great product which I think helps a lot in the process. I recommend you check this website

Purging?
If I purge after everyone has gone to bed will I wake them up?Also, how can I cover that I am purging when I am at a public place, a friends house, or while my parents are home? For that one only give me advice if you know it will work cause I dont want to take any chances.
Answers: Please do not purge yourself! It's extremely unhealthy and dangerous! You will damage your esophagus and stomach and eventually wear away the enamel on your teeth from the acid. If you think you have weight problems, eat sensibly (nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains), drink plenty if water, and stick to a regular exercise regimen.
Talk to your parents, doctor, counselor, or other trusted adult about this. They will help you.
Do not do this to yourself! It's not worth it.
I know it isn't my business, but please don't do this to yourself. By making yourself vomit excessively, your stomach acid will corrode your esophogus. Not to mention that you'll be starving your body of necessary nutrients.
I know that it's hard to find a good way to manage your weight. THIS is not a good decision. In fact, many people who choose bulimia don't lose any weight, and tend to gain alot of weight because they eat too much thinking they will be able to rid themselves of it.
Please don't do that to yourself.
It depends how light a sleeper they are whether you'd wake them up. I don't think you would, but that all depends on the location of the bathroom. I'd try not to get into this habit because it will be really bad when you get caught. You could leave water running to cover up the noise, or leave your radio on really loud and pretend you're in the bathroom painting your nails or taking a bath/shower but if it takes you too long, your parents will be suspicious. There really isn't any "safe" advice that will work for sure. Also, I'm not 100 percent sure about this, but wouldn't barf make the room smell? I'm sure someone would pick up on that....Purging is not only a really dangerous habit, but you will definitely get caught. That's why I don't want to pick up the habit. I can't say I'm doing any thing healthy myself by extreme calorie limitation, but it seems better (with exercise of course) than purging.
P.S. People who are bulimic often GAIN weight. Anorexia I.M.O. is the lesser of 2 evils if you must. Really, both will make you GAIN a lot of weight unless you are doing A LOT of exercise. At first, I actually gained 15 lbs. from bad diet, but now I'm losing really fast after I started working out 2 hrs. every morning.
How does milk actually make you slimmer?
even 1% and 2% have more than 100 calories. those calories will add up. i kno soda would be worse but how does milk help u lose weight?Answers: Milk is a good source of protein, which will keep your blood sugar up and ward off hunger. High protein diets tend to be very good for weight loss (example: The Atkins Diet).
Since I started to work out I was looking for a good weight loss product. I was on a diet but I felt that I needed a little "help" so I decided to try this great product and I had fantastic results. You can check their website at

What are some good, quick diet recipes?
I'm not on a particular diet, just eating healthier (and less) to gradually lose weight. So far, all I know about diet food is general stuff, like fish and salads are good. And that's all I've made, really. Also, is steamed short-grain white rice healthy? I love the stuff, so I hope it is.
Answers: White rice is not healthy. It's a simple carbohydrate that your body converts into sugar. Sorry.
My husband and I maintain a normal weight, although we do gain weight from time to time. We eat whatever we want, but we try not to overeat, we avoid sugary foods, fatty foods, and grease. We try to exercise too, although I admit we usually fail. We are good at keeping our weight down and losing it if we gain a few pounds by watching our diet.
Some food ideas: Whole wheat tortillas, avocados, almonds, asparagus, lean cuts of beef, turkey, egg white omelets, sandwiches on 100% whole grain bread, South Beach snack crackers, fat-free cottage cheese, sugar-free yogurt, whole wheat spaghetti noodles. You get the idea. Just don't deprive yourself, and when you do eat pizza or dessert, don't overeat and you'll be fine.

Good luck on your way to a healthier you. Me too. I've been doing alot of recipes w/ beans. Chili, salads w/ beans, I'm making stuffed peppers w/ black beans and tuna, Bean salads. A good place for bean recipes would be to look up vegan/ vegetarian.
I guess if your going to eat rice, the best would be brown... sorry.
Whole grain is the thing, so go with brown rice. Steam veggies in the microwave, and eat some fresh fruit.
Another current trend is to eat more fiber. Count the fiber grams in the foods you eat , and try to eat in excess of 35 grams of fiber daily. There is no fiber in meat or fish.
Rules of thumb: 5 servings of fruit and/or veggies, 3 of dairy,
3 of meat/fish, 2 servings of fats and 2-3 of whole grain
bread, rice, cereal, pasta or potatoes. Avoid sodas, dessert, sugary thngs and alcohol as much as possible.

I need to lose 40 pounds ?
I am 14 years old and I play high school basketball and football. I am a starter in both sports. The doctor told me I have to lose 40 pounds, but I dont think so. I am very strong and run pretty fast. I don't have alot of stamina. I have tried to lose wieght in the past but it is almost impossible. Please Help!!Answers: The statement, " I don't have a lot of stamina." is the one I would take issue with...and I have to say, that statement alone gives a thumbs up to your Dr's advice. At 14, you should be almost unstoppable, as far as energy level is concerned, anyway.
Advice:
Put down the pop, sugar drinks, snack foods and etc and pick up the water, green leafy vegetables and healthy proteins like fish, chicken and lean beef.
Also, get off the computer and/or PlayStation and hit the yard with friends for football, shoot some hoops or just go for a walk or run, everyday.
Don't overly stress out on this - just look at it as an opportunity to get out there more. Get excited about living life...and use your imagination. See yourself being the kind of person who never gets tired...who is always the last one to walk off the field...who is always the last athlete to call it quits. That type of attitude will not only make you a better athlete, but also get you further in life.
Good Luck!
Hi,
I've tried so many different diets in the last 10 years that I can say now, they don't work!
A few months ago, I came across a great product for weight loss and like many others I was skeptical about it. But I really wanted to lose weight and I tried it. The results were excellent and I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. I felt fantastic and I dropped another 5 pounds safely. That's why I recommend you check this product at http://www.fit-thin.info where they have a free trial and you only pay $6.95 shipping and handling.

ADD equivalent in INDIA?
Doctor prescribed me Addrell ( US Brand) for Adult ADD. Does any body know whats the equivalent medicine in INDIA to this Addrell ?Thanks
Answers: The best way to find out is to ask any doctor or pharmacist to have a look through the CIMS directory or something similar. This is a directory that lists all medicines both by their chemical content and by their brand names, and so it will be easy enough to locate other brands, Indian made, that are equivalent to Addrell.
Presume you are asking either cos you are visiting/moving to India and concerned that you won't get the same medicine there, or else you are US-based and hope that the Indian version works out more economical?
Either way .. you shouldn't have a problem locating an equivalent here. For instance I take Serlift which is the equivalent of Zoloft and it just costs about $2 for 10 tabs of 100 mg. (around Rs 70 .. oh my .. just realised that's cheaper than a whole pack of cigarettes.! Hmmm.)
If I remember I will go check my dad's CIMS book tomorrow .. and if I find it I will come and update here.
I don't know but if you showed this to an Indian pharmacist I'm sure he could tell you:
Specifically, Adderall XR is composed of the following proportions of active ingredients:
1/4 dextroamphetamine saccharate
1/4 dextroamphetamine sulfate
1/4 aspartate (racemic d/l-amphetamine)
1/4 sulfate (racemic d/l-amphetamine)
I am 14 years old.. I have some questions about whey protein.?
I am 14, and want to start working out and maybe taking whey protein. I hear that it works great. I have worked out in the past off and on.. but never stuck to it, but now I want to. I am going to run everyday and also lift most days. My goal is to loose a little weight, gain muscle, and get abs. How will whey protein help me in this, how much should I take, when should I take it ect. Thanks!Answers: First off: you don't necessarily need whey, or any other form of protein shake/supplement, to gain muscle. Eggs, red meat, poultry, fish, are all great sources of protein. I don't personally recommend soy - there's a lot of controversy about everything from it not working as well (bad) to potentially increasing estrogen levels (very bad). Now:
First of all, clean up your diet. Eat wholesome foods, cut back on junk food as much as you can (though a cheat meal every now and again will prevent you from going deprivation-crazy and binging on it). Drink lots and lots of water - there are many reasons which I will discuss later. Eat smaller portions, 5-6 times a day. I know it's hard, especially in school, but really do try. "Grazing" is what you're going after, rather than a a couple of gigantic meals. Keeps the metabolim up, which is good.
Now, generally, the rule is to get 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, per day. So once you've cleaned up your diet, make a small log (hey, you said you were getting serious, well, you gotta do some recon work too) of the amount of protein you eat on average per day. Then check it against your body weight in pounds: if you don't have enough, use the Whey protein to supplement until you do.
A few quick words on whey:
-You don't need super-expensive, pro-endorsed whey. In fact, the cheaper stuff you can find at your grocery store will give you great results. When shopping, make sure you look at how much is in the tub, and how many grams of protein/scoop there are. The more, the better, but the cheap stuff usually runs from 17-30 grams per scoop. Anywhere around 24 is fine, really.
-The shakes contain calories. Drinking them and not exercising is like eating any other meal - you can gain unwanted weight (read: fat) from them.
-Dissolve the shake in milk if you can. Seriously, most whey powder dissolved in water will taste like ****, and will taste anywhere from decent to amazing dissolved in milk. Don't skimp on the milk - it contains important casein proteins in itelf, and the more you add, the better it dissolves. I usually use about 300-350 ml/scoop.
-Whey comes in all sorts of flavours, but honestly, unless you want a shake you don't drink because it tastes awful, stick to "chocolate" flavours. They all taste pretty similar, and they're generally very palatable - a bit like cheap hot chocolate. Avoid "berry blasts" and "fruity sensations" because they mostly taste like CoolAid crystals and vomit.
Now, how will it help you? It gives you an edge. Not everyone has access to that much meat in a day - and this is where the whey comes in. It make up for that deficiency, provides you with the essential amino acids, and gives you energy. This helps build and repair muscles, which is what you want. Remember - the muscles grow while they're resting, not while they're working out.
Don't neglect cardio - 20-30 minutes 3 times a week. The heart is a muscle too - keep it toned and working as well. It doesn't have to be heavy sprinting, but make sure the heart gets its work in as well to avoid any problems with a weak, big heart later on.
A word on rest - do whatever you can to get 8 hours of sleep/night. It's hard, you're a teen, you don't feel like it, but if you're serious, get your shuteye. 8 hours of sleep are optimal for muscle growth and body recovery. Neglect sleep, and you'll be too tired to work out. Plus, the stress on your body will actually PREVENT you from gaining muscle. Are those couple of hours on MSN/Facebook/Whatever worth losing your muscle gains over? Probably not, so ditch the late-night stuff unless it's a rare occasion, like a party.
Finally, a word on water and protein in general. Protein is broken down by the body differently than fats and sugars. The byproduct of fat catabolism is Urea - toxic stuff. If you don't drink enough water, but eat a diet high in protein, you can, over time, develop kidney stones. Nobody wants that, but there's an easy solution - drink lots of water. The more the better, but you are now becoming an athlete - get used to having a waterbottle in your backpack. The 8 glasses a day aren't going to cut it. Drink at least 10+ glasses of water a day, but the more, the better. You should never be thirsty. You know you're drinking enough when your urine is almost, or completely, clear.
What else... oh yeah. Take a multivitamin every day, those thing are magic. And when to take your Whey protein? Doesn't matter all that much, really, but here's a good guideline that works for most people: Drink it AFTER your workout if you're doing lifting. Drink it BEFORE your workout if you're going to do lots of cardio, because a lot of cardio can make your body start breaking down muscle - not good. Protein before the workout will help prevent the muscle loss.
Hope that helps. Oh yeah, if you're getting serious, I suggest www.t-nation.com. Testosterone Nation is a site full of information despite the advertisements, and Christian Thibaudeau has just released Part 1 of Training For Newbies, which covers all the training basics, from exercises to nutrition and supplementation. Best of luck, and welcome to the iron game!
you want to loose weight and gain muscle? maybe you should actually learn the principles of weight training/losing weight before you even start.
btw, at 14 your too young to be taking protein drinks. all it will do is make you gain weight. wait until you get older when you can workout a lot at the gym, then it will help you.
to the person above me, why are you so ignorant? and why are you answering questions when you have no clue what your talking about? your answer doesnt even make sense. protein does not give you stamina.
be careful in taking protein , even at 40 my husband, has to watch his protein intake. if you get too much it's really bad for your kidneys.
consult your health expert or some one at a gym that knows about this before you do it.
right now if you want to build muscle weights is your best go.very careful w/the protiens.
good luck

What would happen to the average person if they went a month without eating?
Or if they ate very, very little for a month?Answers: After that amount of time, they would most likely die.
only food: 6 days
only water: 9-22 days
none: 4 days
If a person were to go without eating for a month, they would most likely die. However, there's a caveat. Someone who weighs alot (think morbidly obese, so obese that a nurse has to come in and wash their rolls of fat) or otherwise has a high body fat percentage would probably be okay. Someone slender and/or with a low body fat percentage could die. In fact, for people who are low in body fat, restricting calorie intake even a little can have adverse effects.
Eating nothing at all or very little leaves a person fatigued, very often confused, constipated, and malnourished. The muscles waste away, revealing the ribs, collarbone, and hips. Fatigue and erratic heartbeats occur with the slightest movement. Anemia and hair loss can occur. The person mayalso grow a soft, downy layer of hair all over their body called lanugo, which is the body's last ditch effort to keep itself warm.
We need food. We need to eat. It's as harmful not to eat as it is to eat too much.
