Diet Fitness Questions and Answers
Which is better...weight watchers online or the actual meetings?
I am debating on rather to join online or in perosnAnswers: I would say the meeting. The obvious main reason - it'll get you out from sitting in front of your PC. 2nd reason, PCs are not better than people.
My mom does WW. And my suggestion to you is to first start off with the meetings. That was very motivating for her. She has lost over 25 lbs. this summer. Now that she has been on the program for awhile, has seen some major results she knows what she has to do and is just using the online tools to keep her on track. If you can go to meetings then I'd do that for at least a month to get you started. Socialize with others who are losing weight too. You'll learn some stuff and like I said, my mom found them to be really motivating for her. The weigh ins really helped keep her on track. (no they don't announce your weight)
If i wanted to lose weight fast?
could i eat any little thing even if full of fat and sugar but eat very low calories like pb diet eating that amount of peanut butter but eating so low on calories that it reallly doesn't matter .Answers: everything essentially is okay in moderation but your metabolism quite literally thrives on what you eat. Youd be better off on a restricted calorie diet....not of bad foods though. Peanut butter is high in protein but fatty and oily as well. Try a teaspoon of peanut butter with apples. It tastes good and is good for you. I mean, even if you just eat 100 calorie slice of cake...It's still cake and those are very empty calories. The key is making those calories count.
As long as you eat less calories than you use you will lose weight, even if the things you are eating are very heavy in calories-it all depends on how much of it you eat. A tiny bit of a very fattening food which contains 100cal will be less fattening that eating 500cal worth of carrots-which would also make you quite ill...and a little orange.
What is a good workout routine for a beginner?
In high school I was 120 lbs. and now that I am 20 years old, I am 5'0'' and 192lbs!! I joined a gym and I desperately want to be at a healthy weight. I have been doing cardio for about 40 minutes 4 times a week. I want to add the weight machines, but I don't know which machines to use. Does anyone know a good routine to lose the weight, using weights and cardio, for a beginner? Also,I can dedicate 4 times a week to working out.Answers: I'm a beginner myself. But my bodybuilder friend did a routine for me and I'd like to share it with you. Here's what I do in 45 minutes at the gym:
Cardio (Walking, running, stairmaster or treadmill) five minutes
Back (Lat Pull Machine)
Chest (Vertical Chest Machine)
Shoulders (Dumbbell shoulder shrug)
Biceps (Dumbbell bicep curl or preacher's curl machine)
Triceps (Overhead press machine)
Legs (Leg Press machine)
Abdomen (Sit ups, abdomen machine, rowing machine)
So here's the trick
Do cardio five minutes as a warm up
Do 12 to 15 reps each of the above exercises I mentioned
Do five more minutes of cardio
Do 12 to 15 more reps each of the above exercises I mentioned
Cool down by stretching or cardio
Since you want to lose weight and tone, choose weights that are lighter but not too light so that you can do more reps.
Do not lift weights any more than three non-consecutive days a week because your muscles need rest.
In the beginning, cardio is best. Be sure to continue your 40 minutes workout and add intervals....meaning for 1 minute increase your speed or add a hill and then slow down and recover...do this for your entire workout and you will see results within the first week or two. When adding weights, ask the people who work at the gym or ask those working out around you. Also, some gyms have weights classes, this is where I learned a lot! So attend those if it works for you. Just remember to first get in your cardio then add weights. Don't work the same muscle two days in a row. Lift heavy enough that you can only do 8 reps or so. If you can do more, then it's not heavy enough. You will be sore! It's okay, rest that part of your body that is sore for one day, no more, then do it again. You may find that you gain weight before losing weight, and this is because muscle is heavier than fat, but as you build more muscle, you will burn fat while you sleep! Keep up the good work, eat right and be patient and you'll see the results you want! Good Luck!
Pushups?
is this a good enough pushup routine.....2sets-of 30 in the morning
and then
2sets-of 30 at night ?
Answers: That sounds great! I'm not going to add any other of my opinions like others as you did not request that.
Yes. I average 100 push-ups a day, and it works well.
I can only add, that you should be doing some cardio (I runand then jump rope) and some situps/crunches.
Aslo, vary the TYPE of pushup.
Narrow, medium, wide stance for hands. There are other pushups you can do as well. Check the internet and you will see all kinds.
Good luck!
Push ups are a great way to build and strengthen the muscles in your chest and arms. There is no right number of sets or reps, it's all subjective. It depends on whether you're maxing out. And you should allow your body to heal if you're sore after your work out. Alternate days at max capacity are better than doing them at max capacity ever day.
Also, your body will adapt to whatever you're doing so you need to mix it up. Some days, max out. Other days, do a lighter routine just to keep your body guessing. On light days you can work again the next day.
You can make push ups more or less difficult by positioning your arms closer in (less difficult) or further out (more difficult). Also, tiping your hands inward will increase your workout. And pushing up from your knees is less difficult than being on your toes.
Here's a nice article on push ups. I hope this helps@

Sounds good to me. The main thing is to use perfect form, and to stick with it, day after day.
I myself do one set of 50 every day. That way I'll never have an excuse not to do it.
Am i doing enough?
If im losing 200 calories in 30 minutes on my exercise bike, will i lose a pound a month? Is that good?
Answers: I think you may benefit more from some variety in your workout. You need cardio AND weights or resistance training. 200 calories in :30 mins is OK.... but it may take a LONG time to notice a different. Losing one pound means burning 3500 calories. SO if you are only buring 200 by exercise per day, it's going to take you a very long time. A pound a week, might be a better goal but I'm not sure of your starting point, current health, limitations or goals? Good luck!
Assuming you do it everyday, & you also eat the same number of calories per day that you were eating before you starting doing the exercise, you will lose about a pound & a half a month. (There are 3500 calories in a pound. If you lose 200 calories everyday, then you will lose 6000 calories per month (200 calories x 30 days in a month), which is approximately a pound and a half worth of calories).
Whether that is good depends on your weight loss goals - are you looking to lose a pound a month? If so, then that is great.
Burn more calories than you lose. When I first started losing weight I would burn more calories than I consumed. I went to the gym 3 times a week then I increased my days after about a month. I also increased my Resistance when I was doing the elliptical and the bike. I burned more calories that way, plus it kept my heart rate up and I sweat more. I lose 10 plus pounds a month. I attend the gym 6 times a week, I have lose 34 pounds.
Saggy skin?
i have been chubby most of my life and i want to lose about 60 lbs. i am young and i will excercise/drink lots and lots of water. will i have saggy skin? thanks so much!1 hour ago - 3 days left to answer.
Answers: try lifting weight and doing cardio, while eating a well balanced diet of lean protein (eggs, lean beef, skinless chicken, lean pork) and complex carbs (oatmeal, whole grain brown rice) and fresh fruit and veggies. if you lose the weight slowly and tone up as you lose it will help decrease chance of saggy skin. if you are younger your skin has more elasticity. good luck.
Neck strain and crunches?
I do not put my hands behind my head, i cross them on my chest. No matter what i try, my neck is tensed during the crunch and i feel i use my neck to initiate the crunch as opposed to using my abs. Frankly, i can hardly feel a thing in my abs.No matter what i try, my abs dont seem to be doing the work and im always using my neck and back. Tensing my abs, i can still feel my neck tense up and no matter how hard i 'tell' my abs to do the work, it always seems to be my neck and back doing everything and i cant seem to relax my neck... Any tips?
Answers: your core muscles are not strong enough to allow you to be able to perform the movement properly.
you need to address the muscle weaknesses in your upper legs, hip flexors and low back. all of these muscles are used when performing a crunch, not just the abdominal muscle.
Try keeping a few inches between your chin & your chest. Focus on a dot or spot on the celing and crunch UP not in. Use your core to bring your chin towards the dot on the ceiling.
I am trying to lose weight. I went back to jogging a month ago but I have lost a little bit.?
Walking seems to help me lose weight more. Should I go back to walking? I thought jogging would make you lose weight more? I need to reduce my waistline, my thighs and go back to size 8. I am a size 10 now.Answers: The way not to do it is starve yourself, to start with. Just exercise and eat right. I did....lost 90 LBS because of it. Starving yourself won't help at all. Drink more water, eat less before bed, and don't eat for stress are the 3 things I follow and i'm going pretty well if i don't say myself. 90 LBS isn't anything like 5-10lbs so take my advice. If you want anymore details, feel free to email me. Just please be patient for ppl seem to email me for advice on this, I will reply, don't worry! ~Adia
As long as your heart rate is at the appropriate level you will burn calories!
Do what works!
I've lost 35 pounds in the last few months.
There honestly is NO secret.
It's a very simple formula.
Portion control / exercise a bit more.
That's it.
Try to eat meals off of smaller plates. Use appropriate portions to plate size.
Eat healthy snacks and avoid things with white sugar. The more natural the better.
PORTION CONTROL IS KEY!

I am really obese, please help me out....?
Hello friends, i am a person who is really obese at a young age. i am 233 pounds and i'm only 18 years old.. a year ago, i started taking dumbbells, doing crunches, started starving and drank a lot of pepsi ( never a bright idea). But, the thng is that i lost 55 pounds within a month... but later on, i couldn't keep up the exercise later on in that year and regained my lost weight and the weight increased later on. .... now, i'm in india. Here, i went to a gym for 3 months, did many exercises, kept good diet. But, in 3 months, all that decreased was 4 kilos.... Please my dear freinds please help me.... i really need to get into good shape.....right now, i'm not going to the gym....Please HELP!!Answers: Don't worry.. You just have to stick to it. Becuse you had lost and gained so much so fast, it will be harder to lose again. But it will happen, just more slowly. Just keep going. Keep going to the gym. Imagnie how much more in shape you are for going to the gym, what if you weren't going to the gym? Just keep going
Diet and exercise are the only answer. Eat 6 small healthy meals a day and be sure to include lean protein. Exercise 4-5 days and week and if you can do cardio everyday.......start out slow.....like walking or a treadmill.....then increase the time and intensity every week. Good Luck and keep exercising....dont quit!
Trying to quit smoking?
Would rather not gain a bunch of weight... any tips from former smokers?Answers: Keep fit with people who smell nice?
I am far too trying a person to quit smoking - I would become impossible to live with - but I wish you luck.
AIDS IN QUITTING
There are aids available to bolster your will to quit. Most important is the aid that God can give. The New York housewife mentioned earlier explained: “I prayed to Almighty God incessantly and with his help held to my resolve never to smoke again.” Yet some pray but still cannot stop. What is the problem?
It could be the timing of their prayers. One smoker prayed in the morning and at night for strength, and, after weakening and taking a smoke, he would pray to Almighty God in order to tell Him that he was sorry for what he had done. A Christian friend asked him: “Isn’t the time that you really need God’s help the moment that you are reaching for a smoke?” When the man began praying at that moment, he gained the help to stop smoking!
Supportive friends, especially ones who themselves have conquered the smoking habit and can therefore affirm that it can be done, are valuable aids. So seek out such friends. Let them know of your decision to stop smoking, and ask for their support.
What is the best way to stop? Is it by reducing the number of cigarettes consumed each day, thereby gradually quitting? Or is it by setting a day and stopping abruptly on that day?
Contrary to what many think, a comprehensive study of ex-smokers showed that smokers are better able to overcome withdrawal symptoms by stopping suddenly. Researchers Saul M. Shiffman and Murray E. Jarvik of the University of California at Los Angeles explain that cutting down slowly may actually “prolong their [the smokers’] agony by intermittently reinforcing their symptoms and smoking behavior. Typically, this chronic state of withdrawal will lead to relapse and return to baseline rates of smoking.”
The first few days after quitting may be the most difficult. So, as an aid, think about the benefits of not smoking. One is the money saved. It can amount to quite a lot! “I’ve now been putting $2 a day into a coffee can—the money I would have previously spent on cigarets,” wrote one man. “I figure in the next 12 months it should add up to more than $700, enough to buy my wife a fur coat or something.”
With strong determination, many smokers have quit for a week or so, enduring the initial agony of withdrawal. But, as World Health observes, “a difficult phase begins, usually starting between the first and the third week. The first backslidings occur then.” So the battle needs to continue!
Whenever you feel a need for a cigarette, breathe deeply two or three times. Keep oral substitutes handy. Pop into your mouth things like raisins, nuts and sunflower seeds, or eat carrot and celery sticks, or chew gum. Drink more fluids—wholesome drinks such as fruit or vegetable juices or just plain water. Also, arrange for a more balanced diet.
Getting more exercise can be a real aid. Perhaps try activities such as jogging, tennis, cycling or swimming. Stretch a lot. Get plenty of rest. Go to bed early so as to avoid nervous fatigue. Concentrate on learning to relax. If you really want to, you can stop smoking!
The nicotine gum (Nicorette, I think) worked for me.
As for the weight gain, first, it's hard; most smokers (pack a day or more) who successfully quit gain weight. I gained thirty pounds in six months.
Here's your best bet--just eat less. Don't try to change your diet (yet--maybe you should, to be healthier, but focus on the current issue now); eat the things you like, and that make you feel satisfied, but eat less of them--maybe even half as much, certainly 2/3 (I'm assuming, based on your question, that you are not underweight).
Don't snack, at all. If you want, plan and prepare a specific snack as part of your food for the day, but then take an equivalent amount out of one of your meals. Five smaller (!) meals are better than three bigger ones. For most of us, eating more in the morning or at lunch is better than a larger meal in the evening.
You'll want to eat--almost everybody experiences this. The so-called professionals (doctors, nutritionists, and dieticians) who say that there's no reason to gain weight when you quit smoking are being disingenious, to be generous--a cynic might say they lie like a rug. You need to be prepared to offset the craving with something that will work. What worked best for me (eventually) was to eat what I like (not low calorie, or low fat--what I liked), but eat less.
And... exercise. You don't have to become a gym rat; you do have to exercise aerobically, diligently and strenuously.
Good luck. It's hard, and anybody who tells you otherwise is not being fully truthful. But you are aware of the issue, so if you focus, and work at it, it can be done--I've seen it.
Read "the EasyWay to Stop Smoking" it helps. Drink lots of water and exercise. Having the execise helps with the desire to want to BREATHE better. I have quit many times. But I don't think I was ever really ready. I WANT to quit and HAVE resolved NOT to smoke. When I did it before, it was more of a guilt thing. I felt like, I 'should' quit not I AM GOING TO quit.
Good luck ~ it's one of the best things you can do for yourself. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women. Be strong & Good luck!
HELP! WILL I GROw TO BE ATLEAST 5?
I am 13 years old,I am a model although they have told me i am a little on the short side as i am 5 foot 5.5
do you think that i could grow to be 5ft7 atleast by the time im an adult. my dad is quite tall (6foot1) however my mym is quite small (5foot4)
can you please tell me if there is any pills or food i can have to help my growth !!
HELP AND ANSWERS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
LOVE YOU ! XX
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
Answers: Don't worry.. According to your description, I came to know that there is nothing like you need to worry. You will grow taller by the time you will be adult because your mum's and dad's height is quiet good and you still have time to grow. To help your growth, you need to drink a lot of milk and go swimming regularly.
I hope you get your dad's genes! :)
Anyway. Do stretching exercises everyday. It works! Drink milk. Sleep early.
there isnt an answer for this question ... youll have to wait ... u could go on them growth spert things
its a dice roll, 50/50 chance either way, depends on who's genes are stronger.
For the most part the rule of thumb is you pretty much stop growing after you get your monthly, but I have seen people get 1-2 more inches since then. So its pretty much luck of the draw.
Eat lots of veggies, whole grains and fruits, which wouldnt harm you even if you dont grow.
umm there aren't any medications that i have heared of that make you taller, but there might be. i do know that certian things can stub your growth like coffee. if it runs in the family im asuming you won't be growing anytime soon.
There is NOTHING you can do to make yourself grow. It all depends on your genes.
Women grow until they are 18-21, so you still have some time, although I wouldn't count on gaining several inches.Women DO NOT stop after they get their [eriods! (some girls get their periods when they are 8, if women actually did stop then there would be a lot more really short women in the world). And there have been no scientific studies to prove that caffene stunts growth. Once again, height depends on your genetics. (if your parents are tall, you will be, if they are short, you will be short)
As a previous answer said, you are already a model, so does it really matter.
That is always possible. You're only 13 years old, for one. And it's only 1.5 inches. You'll be fine.
Good luck with the modeling!
If you are still within the growing age then perhaps you can add a few inches by eating a balanced diet and leading an active life. A nutritious diet that includes fruits and vegetables, dairy, cereals, meat, and plenty of water will aid the natural process for enhancing height. A good and proper night’s sleep is also essential for the growth process. Taking part in active sports along with some stretching exercises can have a cumulative effect on human growth. There is not much we can do to grow taller after puberty. There are many products in the market today that claim to increase height of adults, but they are all scams without sufficient scientific evidence. Surgical options, though available, are EXTREMELY RISKY and of course expensive. This leaves us with basically two options.
1. Stretching Exercises: - These exercises will help you improve your posture. You’ll be surprised that how much of “Height” is hidden behind your slouched back. You can, at any age, add an inch or two of height by simply improving your posture. Follow the link below for information on specific height enhancing exercises:
http://www.fashtech.com/support/taller-e...
2. Second, you can create a “Taller” effect by following some smart fashion techniques. You can easily add another inch or two of “illusionary height” by improving your dress coordination. The link below can provide some input on height increase through fashion effect:

Good luck
My friends son needs to make weight by 7pm tonight...?
It is now 10:26am. So how can someone lose 6 pounds in 8.5 hours?Answers: i used to be a wrestler so i've been in this exact situation before...take a bunch of saran wrap and completely cover all parts of his legs, arms and torso...then put on a few sweatshirts and a few pairs of sweatpants...than run run run...also tell him to cut his fingernails, spit into a cup all day, and maybe a small amount of laxatives may even do the trick
try a suana. sweat it out. also, tell him not to eat and use the bathroom as much as possible..
good luck. :D
Wrestlers! The only way to do this is to dehydrate the body, destroy muscle, and weaken him. Next time maybe he should think ahead and eat better.Or move to a different weight class.
