Diet Fitness Questions and Answers
Have i become really overweight?
I am 5'0", weigh 140, have a 39.5 in. waist, and I am 13 years old. Do ineed to lose a lot of weight?Answers: Your BMI says that you are overweight. At your height, the right weight would be about 95-127 lbs. So you're not grossly overweight or anything, but try to lose around 15 lbs and you'll be fine =)
your shirt so yea you are
overweight
you should be atleast around 120
You're thirteen and still growing. I would talk to your parents and consult with your doctor a nutritionist. It's not safe to lose a lot of weight at such a young age. =)
Weight and cholesterol levels?
Looking for web sites that have receipes that would help with both weight and cholesterol. Also any receipes you may have. BTW, I love most veggies. Any help?Answers: Yes, Sparkpeople.com has a whole recipe section, where you type in what ingredients you want, for example vegatarian.
Here's a cool recipe I found on there for Whole Wheat Pizza w/ Veggie Toppings :
Ingredients:
1.5 c warm water
2 c whole wheat flour
1.5 c white flour
6 T ground flaxseed
1.5 t salt
1 T yeast
2 T olive oil
6 cloves garlic minced
oregano (dried)
1 c tomato sauce
1 pckg. frozen chopped spinach (thawed w/ water squeezed out)
1 c chopped onions
1 c chopped bell pepper
1 c chopped tomatoes
1 c sliced mushrooms
salt & pepper to taste
Directions:
Add water, whole wheat flour, white flour, flaxseed, salt, & yeast to bread machine (per your bread machine's instructions). May need to add a little more flour as needed. Set on pizza dough setting. When cycle is completed turn dough out on a floured surface, cut in half (if making 2 15" pizzas), & allow to rest for 5 minutes. Preheat oven to 425F. Sprinkle baking stone or pizza pan w/ cornmeal. Roll & shape dough onto baking stone or pan. For a thicker crust, cover lightly & allow to rise for 45 minutes. Bake pizza crust at 425F for 4 minutes. Remove from oven.
Brush pizza(s) with olive oil, distribute garlic evenly, & sprinkle w/ oregano. Spread tomato sauce onto pizza crust, top w/ spinach, chopped onions, bell pepper, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Sprinkle w/ salt & pepper. Return to oven & bake at 425F for 10-12 minutes more, until veggies are cooked & crust is slightly brown.
Makes 2 15" pizzas (Freeze the leftovers & reheat)

Sparkpeople.com (if you join, please say you were referred by maritzabaez) also gives excellent advise on nutrition, fitness, and motivation. You can track your daily calories and workouts, and they give you tips on portion sizes, they have streaming workout videos and exercises, and it works because you can realize if you are eating too much or too little and it helps you focus on what your should be eating more of (for example, more protein or more fruits and veggies).
I want to cut carbs but everything got carbs in it right?
like i don't eat bread or ptatoesbut i do eat cooked rice and special k so do i have to quit tht too?
Answers: Rice and Special K do have carbs in them. BUT, brown rice has fiber and white rice has none so brown rice has less carb impact on your diet. Same with the cereal. Look on the label under the carb section, you can subtract the amount of dietary fiber from the total carbs to figure out exactly how many grams of carbs you're ingesting per serving. The more fiber in the food the better. Leafy vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and spinach have lots of fiber and you can eat as much as you want of these veggies plus they fill you up. I don't recommend you totally cutting out carbs in your diet because you need carbs for energy. The main thing is to avoid sugar in sodas, candy, condiments, prepared foods and some vegetables such as corn, carrots and white potatoes. I recommend the South Beach diet. It worked for me recently. Good luck.
yes...
meat, eggs and cheese have no carbs.
Try the Atkins Diet. This is carb free. There are plenty of foods that contain no carbs, ie meat, fish, veg.
To cut down carbs try not to eat a lot of carbs is what is meant.
But still eat the good carbs, you dont want to intake carbs from junk food but "Complex carbs" are very good for you
Bran
Wheatgerm
Barley
Maize
Buckwheat
Cornmeal
Oatmeal
The food list below shows good sources of complex carbohydrates.
Pasta
Macaroni
Spaghetti
Brown rice
Potatoes
Other root vegetables
Wholemeal breads
Granary bread
Brown bread
Pitta bread
Bagel
Wholegrain cereals
High fiber breakfast cereals
Porridge oats
All bran
Wheetabix
Shredded wheat
Ryvita crispbread
Muesli
Cassava
Corn
Yam
Oatcakes
Peas
Beans
Lentils
Try brown or whole rice, wheat pasta and non white carbs Also, watch out for hidden sugars (Beats, Carrots,) and hidden starch (Peas, and Corn)The problem with carbs is that they make you crave more carbs, the healthy carbs like wheat flour or ok to eat in small amounts. We do need some carbs in our diet on a regular basis, the best explaination about carbs I have read is in the front cover of the "South Beach Diet" book. It will tell you what "Bad" vs "Good" carbs are. How the act in your system and plenty of excellant ways to get good carbs. My mother is 72 years old she thought she would never be able to lose weight (she was a big time sweets and carbs eater) went on this diet and lost 70 lbs. in apx eight months. Good Luck.
What kind of fruit is bad for health?
Is there any kind of fruit that is bad for health, if so then what are those?Answers: No, I don't think any naturally occuring fruit is bad as such for health. In fact, all naturally occuring things, even potatoes, are good for health. It's we people who tend to try to make things 'tastier', deep fry things, etc. etc. and ruin the health factor in them.
ANYthing taken in it's natural form is good for you. It's been proved.
Also, it is a myth that bananas increase calories. For breakfast, you can eat as much as five bananas and not worry about cals. I don't think trying that for dinner is advisable though...
any fruit that is canned or packaged is bad for you, because it is high in sugar, but if you stick to natural fruit than it is all healthy in moderation.
Nutritionists & Dietitians: Help with supplement recommendations...?
I know, I know. Most of you despise supplements and recommend only a Centrum as a multivitamin. But I have a 10 year old daughter who looks like an average 7 year old. We are having her tested for thyroid and endocrinological disorders at a major children's hospital in a few weeks. That may supply our answers, as may genetic history...BUT, this child has been food-difficult since she was 2 years old. She typically disappears to bed at dinner time as her way of escaping protein and vegetable rich meals. She would rather be hungry until her breakfast bowl of Cheerios. I do not buy white bread, but she eats a lot of whole wheat... though refuses whole grain. For the most part, she lives on carbs with just a few starches. She refuses most pasta, nearly ALL meat, and every vegetable. She will eat a baked potato, but refuses rice, corn and beans. She will eat strawberries, but refuses apples, oranges, grapes and banannas.
Answers: Hmmmmmmmmmmm...........kinda sounds like me when I was younger. When you are having her get those blood tests done, have them do a full work-up, to see if she is lacking any vitamins in the "diet" that she has. If everything looks like she's healthy, then it's probably just how her metabolism is. I feel bad for my parents at how difficult/picky of an eater I was (&, to some extent still am). My mom used to hide nutricious food into other food to get me to eat it (really, didn't work, though). Just try to expose her to as many different types of food to see what she likes and, when you find something, incorporate that more & more into your meals you make, so she'll eat them. If that doesn't work, maybe try a bribe, like, if she finishes her plate of food, she can watch an extra tv show. Also, there's nothing wrong with taking a multi-vitamin (given it is made for kids & her dr. says it's ok) Me & my 4 siblings used to take a flinstone vitamin everyday.
Someone help? i dont know how to do it.?
i need to loose weight.i weigh 135 but i still have pudge in the stomach n thighs.
i work out alllll the timw, i run 2 or more miles every day for cross country and then work out and run in soccer every day & no matter how much i do that i cant loose weight!
i drink lots of water. and after i get done with practices i go straight to work so its not like im sitting on my butt watching tv oranything, im constantly moving. how can i loose weight? i wanna loose ten pounds.
Answers: proper dieting will do.
It is very difficult to reduce the because you have not mentioned your age and what you consume for breakfast, dinner, supper, lunch etc., I think you take more than your age. That is more important than anything else. Yours,
vrvrao
Well it sounds like you are definitely exercising enough. But maybe cut back on some of the food you are eating or if you are hungry, which I am assuming you are a lot with the amount of exercise you are doing, have more fruit and vegetables. They are high in fiber and will help you feel fuller, longer. Also, stick with lean protein and whole grain carbs.
look u don't need to lose weight
what you need to do is tone up ur body
lift some small weights to tone up the arms
do some leg lifts to tone up the thighs
and do some sit ups to tone up ur mid section
2 ideas that worked for me, with BMI 19.8 before lost weight:
1. South Beach Diet. Actually has very fun & interesting food combinations. I lost 8lb & kept it off for a couple months after returning to "normal food."
2. The Skinny ***** by Rory Freedman & Kim Barnouin . Summary: two CA vegans scare you into eating the way they want you to. Then you realize it's probably the best way you should be eating anyways. I've lost 5lb in 1 week.
Find out your blood type and look for a diet that matches your blood type. Find out what part of the world your DNA came from, and adjust your diet to what they eat. Keep hydrogenated foods out of your diet. Don't eat after 5:00pm and eat only after you have done something in the morning. Don't go straight to the food bowl from bed or before bed.
Lose 30 lbs in 2 weeks without exercise?
how can i lose weight quick, i have a hospital appointment in 2 weks and i am classed as overweight, im 5ft and weigh 10stone, so over weight, i need to get down to around 7-8 stone anyone know how, p.s. i cant eat vegtables.im 18, thanks for your help.
Answers: The only healthy way to lose weight is to exercise. Even if it is just walking or playing a sport.
TRY to find fruits and vegetables that you like. If you really can't you should drink protein shakes. They may say "weight gain" but this just means they help you build up muscles (you'll only build muscles if you are working with weights). You won't gain fat from protein shakes.
STAY AWAY FROM SLIMFAST. They look like protein shakes but they have too much sugar and other nasties.
You shoudn't lose 30lb in 2 weeks this is very dangerous, regardless of your weight. If you take it more slowly the weight will stay off.
If you're desperate you could try a juice fast (just drink juice and don't eat anything else) but don't do this for too long as it can be really unhealthy.
Eat small portion about 5-6 times a day. walk everywhere if possible and exercise.
i'm afraid you won't lose that much but at least it's a start.
I don't know how much 10 stone is, but you can't lose 30 pounds in 2 weeks. That is so unhealthy and probably impossible. Your best bet is to just eat heathy and exercise and drink lots of water.
why cant you eat veggies?
the only way you can eat healthy and lose weight is by going raw. which means uncooked fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds (not roasted), oils, grains. and they ahve to be raw...and its hard to find raw nuts and seeds but if you have a whole foods they will have them. drink lots of water and stay active someone. i dont really think you can achieve the best results without exercise. to be honest...it sounds like your trying to take the easy way out...sorry hun but nothing in life is easy to get anymore. you have to be motivated and work for what you want.
Hi,
Is this a joke you wanna loose 2/3 stone in 2 weeks but you cant eat veg why?
i think you only option here is surgery!
You should of not left it this late or maybe stop stufing your face.

You need to do a lot of exercise to accelerate your metabolism. It's better if you do cardiovascular exercise, because this kind of exercise helps you burn fat...
You should begin with a good eating plan, combining fats and sweets with fruits and vegetables. It will be better if you drink at least eight glasses of water daily to control your calories and your cholesterol.
If you want you can use some pills to control your weight and to accelerate the process of burning fat.
I know some pills which you can use to reduce your weight. Those pills are Xenical and Hoodia. Their results are excellent and fast.
Its impossible to lose 30 lbs in two weeks , You can lose about 6 lbs the most then it wont stay off
Your best bet would be something like the Slim fast liquid diet
Find a walking partner and try this:
Okay. Cut out eating in between meals.
Only eat healthy food and cut down on Carb’s like bread, potatoes, pasta's, rice, cereals, lollies etc. These are the fat making foods. Learn exactly what your food groups are so you then know what puts the weight on and off.
Don’t add salt to your meals. Cut out soft drinks.
Then walk an hour every morning two hours after a meal and the same in the afternoon.
If you can jog in between both sessions you'll burn even more calories.
You should lose and continue to lose more weight as you go.
If you can cut out your lunch meal and replace it with a protein drink instead that would also help. Available in supermarkets.
As long as you can stay off junk food and eating in between meals. If you have to eat something in between have something like small raw carrots or celery sticks.
Summary:
Choose a cereal low in sugar for breakfast.
Lunch can be a protein drink. Like “Slim Right”.
And all normal meals at a normal serve. Cut down on potatoes and only have small portions of these. Walking as much as you can.
For those that want to build more muscle add some gym work to the above as well.
Excercising advise-help please?
Okay let's start at the beginning. I'm 20, female, medium build and I weigh 13stone. I have two medical conditions known as polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis which has resulted in me having a stomach which I hate. I'm also on a psuedo-menopausal hormone treatment for these which doesn't really help. I have a really healthy diet and excercise regularly however I'd really appreciate any advice on any exercises I can do to tone my stomach without straining it too much. Thanks xxAnswers: There are all kinds of exercises that focus on the stomach muscles, just type it into a search engine. The problem is it won't help you lose weight off your tummy, it'll just create muscle above it.
My belly is always the first place to get bigger so I know how you feel. I've found yoga to be really helpful, and I do the Iyengar style.
But I also just try to accept I'll never have a flat tummy, and that I can still be attractive and sexy without one.

Does a high protein diet help weight loss? What are the plans that should be followed?
Answers: I think it depends if you are just trying to lose fat or build muscle, which is what high Protein does(build muscle), for instance I myself am looking to get much stronger so i'm using High Protein and i'm getting very strong but I still have a bit of a beer gut. I need to up my cardio, Protein helps in Weight loss as well because you use it to replace meals you would normally eat but come with a lot of baggage and the Protein helps you maintain normal muscle strength.

High protein definitely helps. A lot of people think a high protein diet is just for guys trying to bulk up. But there are many different types of protein that help with different things.
I did a high protein low carb diet and worked out regularly and lost 20lbs in a month.
I ate 3 well portioned meals a day, with snacks in between. This helps keep your metabolism up.
Try eating foods high in protein like egg whites, turkey, fish, low fat dairy like cheese, milk, and yogurt. Incorporate fruits and veggies, but stay away from fruits high in sugar like grapes and strawberries. The best are apples and grapefruit.
Drink lots of water and work out on a regular basis. If you are craving a food thats not on your diet, dont deny yourself. Have a small taste, just try not to binge on it! A cheat day wont ruin your progress
Hope this helps and good luck!
Also your body doesnt store protein like it does fat and carbohydrates. It can use it for energy and use it for muscle growth but what is doesnt use it will dispose of.

Why do I hate exercising so much?
I know that I need to start working out because my clothes are fitting tighter and I feel gross. I keep planning to work out and I buy healthy food and fruits and veggies at the store but it always ends up being more convenient to eat pizza than cook a healthy meal. Plus I always seem to find something better to do than exercise (such as Y! Answers). How can I get myself to go to the gym? I can work out for free at my University but I just hate going. I think I'm too lazy. Help!!Answers: Do you have a picture of yourself when you were thinner? Or, you can go to the mall & buy a cute outfit (or, even just a top) & hang it in plain sight,so you have something to strive for. Or, you could do the opposite. Find a picture that you think that you look absolutely horrible in & look at it often to motivate you. This is what I do. I have a pic of myself & my bf that I keep hanging up at my desk in which I totally look at least 3 months preg. in. Oh, one last thing.............throw out your scale ! I have found that stepping on the scale is totally counter-productive. Whne you workout, you are bound to gain some muscle & muscle weighs more than fat & there's nothing worse than stepping on a scale & either not seeing it move, or, doing the opposite. Insead, judge your weight-loss by the way you look in the mirror & also on how your clothes feel/fit. If they fit better/looser, than you are doing good !
Go straight to the gym after work, every day, before you come home ... or better yet - get up 2 hours earlier, go to the gym before you go to work - then go to sleep 2 hours earlier. I realize that sounds "impossible" - but it's not. It's mind-over-matter - you can make it happen if you want it bad enough.
Good luck.
get a work out buddy
so u don't have to do it alone
u keep them on the deit
they keep you on the deit
Just push yourselves with rewards.
