I was reading that we all have a body weight SET-POINT and when we try to lose weight by eating less we just go back up to that point. HOWEVER when we eat fat are bodies raise the set-point level where they want us to be. IT SEEMS TO BE TRUE BECAUSE countries that consume less fat seem to have less obesity ISN'T THAT TRUE? Answers: Being Fat is Obesity. Eating Fat does not make you gain weight. Calories make you gain weight. Women are recommended 1600-2000 calories a day depending on their size. 1 Pound of muscle burns 45 Calories a day. It is all about how you eat. Calories come in 3 forms that I know of. Fat Carbs and Protein. All are essential and you need fat to live healthily but try eating fats from nuts or fish. Protein needs to be eaten more then fat and carbs more then protein. Fat = less that 15-20%, Protein 35-40% Carbs 45-55% but if your muscular consume more protein when needed. Losing weigh is easy, intake only a certain amount of calories a day balancing your %'s and Drink your body weight Divided by 2 in ounces a day. Normally 1/2 to 1 Gallon a day will do. A gallon for moderate activity. More then a gallon is not good unless you are very very active in using muscles etc. Fat Free Foods are a gimmick. Fat does not = Fat, 1LB of Fat = 3500 Calories. Calories are the equivalent to fuel in a car.

When I went vegetarian I gained a lot weight around my upper abdominals. How can I get rid of it??

went vegetarian a little over a year ago and I didn't do a very good job about eating the proper food. I was lacto ovo and ate a lot of dairy, which in retrospect, I know is wrong.
I later went vegan a little over 6 months ago and lost some of the weight I had gained. But I still have a lot of fat around my upper stomach. It's hard to explain, but it's like right under my rib cage is always bloated. I don't know how to get rid of it.
I've tried exercising and I'm going on a reduced calorie diet. I'm around 1400 right now. Now I'm going to eat nothing but vegetables and tofu. I have to commute to school every day so I get about 40 minutes of walking in plus climbing stairs at my apartment.
I really need ideas because I'm feeling terrible about myself and I honestly don't know what to do.

Answers: You need to raise your calorie intake. Everything you have heard about cutting out 500 calaries a day to lose a pound a week is false.

Yes 1 pound of fat is 3500 calories, and if you were an excel spreadsheet you would lose the weight. But your not an excel spreadsheet, you are a human being. Your body is organic, and like many other organisms, it has the uncanny ability to adapt to your environment.

If you were to eat less that the amount of calories you need to survive your body goes into starvation mode, and you start to gain weight. You become sluggish, your metabolism slows down, and you start gaining weight.

What you need to do is continue on your vegan diet (there is nothing wrong with being a vegan) but you need to eat more. If you maintained your weight on 2200 calories a day, than you should reduce your calories but eat at least 1760 calories a day. 1760 is 80% of 2200, which is the most you should ever reduce your caloric intake and still be healthy.

Mainly you need to base your diet using whole grains instead of vegitables. You will still need to eat a lot of vegitables but you will need to eat more whole grains. (Note, that is whole grain, and not multi-grain, or whole wheat.)

Also, eliminate those processed sugary food and breads. You don't need them. Instead try eating natural foods. An example is that although fruit juice is vegan, it is made with lots of sugar and high fructose corn syrup, which are very unhealthy.

If you want to lose the fat around your upper stomach, what you need to do is give your body something to adapt too. Meaning you need to get out there and exercise. When you exercise you'll need to do more than just 30 minutes of cardio 4 times a week. That type of exercise is good for people who are 50 lbs over weight and want to be healthy. But if you want to lose 10 vanity pounds (and it sounds like thats what you want to lose) than you need to have a more intense workout.

You should speak with your doctor about a good exercise program that works for you.

How much should i weigh?

How much should a 5'7 gal weigh normally? and how much would a model weigh...this height?
Answers: You can check your BMI, Body mass index to see if you are at a healthy weight. I have included a BMI calculator site and a model information site.

Most models now have to be over 18 BMI. I wouldn't go less than 17.5

I'm 31, 5'5" and weight 153. I want to weight 130. How do I do it?

I like physical activity but work a desk job and work long hours. I also do not like hunger. I think I will cut coffee and sugar to lessen the spikes in my blood sugar... I will try to cut alcohol as well and drink more water and eat more fiber. But what should I be doing otherwise? Do I really need to count calories? I heard Pilates is great and I do sme eliptical work. But 1-do elipticals really burn as much/more calories as running? 2- how long will it take to lose 23 pounds? And.. How to lose weight?

I HAVE to lose 10-15kg in 2-3weeks, how can i make this happen?
I cant walk, everagain, so i cant go do exercise clases or go for walks, the only thing i can do at home is the exercise bike. Plus i dont want my mum knowing im losing weight, im 15 years old, and please dont give me lectures.

at home, workouts are really effective..

if you know swimming, you can burn ur calories that way too..

have a well balanced diet..

avoid high calorie foods like potato chips, bakery items, cheese, butter, non-veg items etc etc..

make a list of low calorie items and eat them alone..

many will disagree on this or will find this difficult.. but it is very effective.. you need to skip your lunch! but you can have fruits or vegetables in the afternoon.. nevertheless u can have a nice yummy dinner..within a week you ll lose 5 kg!..i am sure about it.. try it but you need will power..

This is my theory and this is what works for me. Everyone is different so it may need to be adjusted to your own personal needs.

Energy In/Energy Out

Food Intake: 1,200 Per Day

One Pound equals 3,500 Calories

To loose one pound per day, You need to burn your food intake plus your one pound of fat

1,200 (intake) + 3,500 (Outtake) = 4,700 Calories Burn

You must burn at least 4,700 Calories everyday to loose one pound at least. It is very easy to go up and beyond 4,700 calories each day.

Best way to do this is to track your progress on a calorie counter monitor watch. If you do it by the numbers you can loose the weight. It is just a matter of changing the way you think about weight loss.

Once you start wearing your calorie counter you can see the numbers increase and you fill find yourself doing extra things in your day, like tapping your foot while waiting at the light in your car, chewing gum, singing out loud and so on onto of your workout routines. You begin to see that everything you do in your day contributes to the overall numbers needed to loose that pound.

I, myself, have done this recently. Two weeks later, I lost one pant size and 10 pounds. And that is just my current progress. I have used this method previously after childbirth and have gone from 168 to 127 pounds with in two months.

I personally burn 1,000 calories by Walking in my community for one hour in the morning and I also burn 1,000 calories by simply using a stationary bike while playing xbox. I get so involved in playing xbox that I completely forget I am pedaling or working out. Think about it..How many hours have you spent playing video games..why not burn calories while you are doing it.

Simple: Low Carb Tortilla, Half Avocado sliced, alpha sprouts, lettuce, soy bacon...Just wrap it up and eat. You can vary the things you put inside so long as you keep it to approx 4 or 5 items. You want to make sure they are fresh, low calorie and filling. Avocado and mushrooms can replace meats in your meal and still have great taste.

Special K Cereals are fantastic. They have that sweetness that one craves and is so good for you. Calories are low. Great for even just dinner.

First thing in the morning...A Glass of Chocolate Milk. Yup!! Chocolate Milk. We all crave that "got to have" item in the morning. Milk is the best thing you can have for yourself while working out. The chocolate (and you can use Carnation Instant Milk for this but I simply use Nestle dry mix) will give you that sweet "snack" that you need. If you give your body a little bit of it and its in a control way, you will not crave sweets and junk the rest of the day.

Lean Cuisines

Fantastic food! Each meal is approx 180 t0 380 calories per box. So think about your calories. 1,200...You can still have several of these meals a day and still be under your intake requirements.

It’s all about the numbers and watching what you take in and what you burn out. And you know what..If you go over your 1,200 mark for food intake...that’s okay...you simple up your total calories burned for the day by what you took it. So long as you burn off the over all calories to be more than your food intake. Just make sure you stick too it so you can reach your weight loss goals.

WoW..now your making progress already because you have made more room in your intake calories for actual healthy food.

Soda/Carbonation

Carbonation is terrible for your system because it bloats your stomach. And when your stomach bloats, your jeans just don't fit. You can drop one pant size simply by NOT drinking any carbonated drinks all together..Take away the bloat and you have instantly just made it one pant size lower. Besides, Sodas dehydrate you and with that One a Day Vitamin, you won't need the Caffeine in the soda and it will also cut out those extra calories that you don't need.
So remove that soda and the energy drinks and just think how much calories you just instantly removed from your daily intake. I normally consume what...four sodas and two energy drinks in one day...that is a total of .... 900 calories. Of what? Nothing...Those are horrible calories and calories that can be replaced by food which will fuel your body for your day and your workouts.

Your Body

Your body is like a computer. You must program your body to do what it is suppose to do so it won't crash and leave you with a virus. Your stomach is only the size of your fist. So think about it right now, Look at your hand and close your fist. Not very big is it. That is how much food you actually ONLY need to eat, each time you eat for every meal. If you eat anything more than that, you will stretch out your stomach which causes overeating and overweight.

What you need to do is eat every three hours, approx 5 to 7 times everyday around the same time. If you are always giving your body healthy and better food choices (the size of your fist) every three hours, your body will know you are giving it food. It will use that food properly. It will not go into starvation mode or store food away for later because it knows...it will get more in three hours. So what does your body do...it flushes everything out of your system because it doesn't need it.. Now it knows...you wont' forget about it and that food is on its way.

Walking Buddy

This is the best thing especially for woman. Get a walking buddy. One hour everyday. Just think about how much talking, venting and laughing two woman can do together while walking and yup, you guessed it...it just burns more calories and reduces your stress. You now are more relaxed because you can talk and free yourself of whatever is frustrating you while getting into shape.

The best thing to do is eat healthy each day.. fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of water. Do a light exercise/aerobics in the morning, after school or any other activity you do during the day. Ride your exercise bike for about 30 mins then do an exercise/aerobics.

Also if possible, jumping rope and dancing helps.

Okay. Cut out eating in between meals.
Only eat healthy food and cut down on Carb’s like bread, potatoes, pasta's, rice, cereals, lollies etc. These are the fat making foods. Learn exactly what your food groups are so you then know what puts the weight on and off.
Don’t add salt to your meals. Cut out soft drinks.
Then walk an hour every morning two hours after a meal and the same in the afternoon.
If you can jog in between both sessions you'll burn even more calories.
You should lose and continue to lose more weight as you go.
If you can cut out your lunch meal and replace it with a protein drink instead that would also help. Available in supermarkets.
As long as you can stay off junk food and eating in between meals. If you have to eat something in between have something like small raw carrots or celery sticks.
Summary:
Choose a cereal low in sugar for breakfast.
Lunch can be a protein drink. Like “Slim Right”.
And all normal meals at a normal serve. Cut down on potatoes and only have small portions of these.
Walking as much as you can.

Are low-carb tortillas bad for the Atkins diet?

4 gram net carbs but is it bad to eat?
Answers: If you're doing Atkins, and have gone past your initial stages then you can have low carb tortillas -- just not every day and you should have a higher ratio of vegetables and meat with that particular meal. Think of it more as an accompaniment.

How long does it take to do a split, what is the best way to do it (meaning what stretches)?

i'm going to try and stretch everyday for 1 month, that wont work will it?!
Answers: What you need to do is take a hot bath-- normally a little warmer than you're used to. You want to relax your joints and muscles because you will need them as you do your stretches everyday.
After stretching grab a friend or family member and EXPLAIN to them what you are trying to achieve--(how far down you will try to go each day). Have that person spot you as you will need their assistance with helping you balance. Have them stand behind you and slightly hold your waist.
Keep your back straight, your legs locked and point your toes as you slide. With your joints still being warm from your BATH not shower, it will be easier to force yourself another inch down and sometimes more!
It took me about two weeks to finally get a perfect right and left split and about five weeks to get a forward split. Take it ONE DAY AT A TIME. Let me know how it goes.
yeah stretch everyday and try go down as far as you can everyday. little by little make your self go down a little more than the last day. that worked for me i was able to do the splits in a week or two.

Besides, Sodas dehydrate you and with that One a Day Vitamin, you won't need the Caffeine in the soda and it will also cut out those extra calories that you don't need.
So remove that soda and the energy drinks and just think how much calories you just instantly removed from your daily intake. I normally consume what...four sodas and two energy drinks in one day...that is a total of .... 900 calories. Of what? Nothing...Those are horrible calories and calories that can be replaced by food which will fuel your body for your day and your workouts.

Your Body

Your body is like a computer. You must program your body to do what it is suppose to do so it won't crash and leave you with a virus. Your stomach is only the size of your fist. So think about it right now, Look at your hand and close your fist. Not very big is it. That is how much food you actually ONLY need to eat, each time you eat for every meal. If you eat anything more than that, you will stretch out your stomach which causes overeating and overweight.

What you need to do is eat every three hours, approx 5 to 7 times everyday around the same time. If you are always giving your body healthy and better food choices (the size of your fist) every three hours, your body will know you are giving it food. It will use that food properly. It will not go into starvation mode or store food away for later because it knows...it will get more in three hours. So what does your body do...it flushes everything out of your system because it doesn't need it.. Now it knows...you wont' forget about it and that food is on its way.

Walking Buddy

This is the best thing especially for woman. Get a walking buddy. One hour everyday. Just think about how much talking, venting and laughing two woman can do together while walking and yup, you guessed it...it just burns more calories and reduces your stress. You now are more relaxed because you can talk and free yourself of whatever is frustrating you while getting into shape.

What i recommend doing is writing down on paper everything that goes through your body because it helps count calories. Set attainable goals for yourself like a pound a week. Celebrate your small victories. Start your day out feeling good about yourself by running a little more each day. Girl, you can do it. Beliveve in yourself. Remind yourself every morning and before sleeping that you are not giving up and going to lose that weight. Good luck.
there is a point where you can get too skinny. and in order for an acurate plan you should list your weight, height, and age. also losing two pounds a week is really pushing it. you would have to cut what you eat by alot, and u will never lose weight if u r ''too lazy'' to work out/ eat right.

c) reduce your dairy intake to 2 cups a day.
d) drink only water and tea (without sugar)
e) eat whatever you want one meal each week.

you'll lose plenty before next summer.
1) eat plain oats, with milk as breakfast
2) aerobic exercise (any video will do) 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes (i do it 2 hours after dinner, my wife swims at 6am)
3) no more sugared drinks for you. (cola, ice tea)


* skipping meals doesn't work. it's only temporary, and mostly water weight

Okay well first of all you will have to excercise. Whether you are lazy or not, it is a necessity. It doesnt even have to be running 3 miles every day. Take a long slow walk with one of your friends. Talk through the whole thing and it will be just like you are hanging out. No big deal.

Try to stay away from sodas and juices.. even if they are diet. These suck up good nutrient s in our body. You drink these when you could be drinking water and this isnt good. Have these drinks as a treat every once in a while.

Eat alot of fruits when you want something sweet and eat your vegtables. If you get all of the right nutrients in you body you will look great. These nutrient brighten up your skin, make your hair smoother, and if you drink tons of water, your pimples will go away. It is the perfect way to look great.

Always remember that you need these nutrients in your body. Dont starve yourslef because its unhealthy and it deprives our body of the nutrients that make us look good. Being that skiinny never looks good.

If you follow these steps you should be fine. It doesnt have to stick perfectly to this diet. You can have a treat every once and a while but just keep it in portions. Never eat alot of junk. Jsut a little bit if you have to.

It doesnt really seem to me like you need to lose weight but it is great that you want to become healthy. Losing the stomache pouch is a plus but always keep in mind that you are making your body healthier. Youll notice that when you eating right and avoiding junk that you feel so much better and have so much more energy. Well good luck with everything!

You don't want to lose weight. If you lost all that weight you will have to wear lead filled shoes to keep yourself on the ground. This is the reason people are like a yo yo losing gaining, because they focus on weight. Like it or not the only way that will be best for you is to eat and live 'properly'.

In one place you say you are "too lazy to exercise and eat right answers aren't good enough" Then you say you need exercise plan and recipes to make low cal food.

I believe that when you are not 'dieting' you are not thinking of food. So you just eat whatever and whenever you like. Now comes 'dieting', and all you are doing is thinking of food, to eat and not to eat, and rewarding and punishing yourself depending upon how 'good' or 'bad' you have been. Generally rewarding yourself with the same 'bad' food and punishing by starving.

If this is somewhat familiar to you then here is something that may work for you. For exercise plan join a health club on a trial basis only. The specific exercises they will suggest will reduce your tummy if you do them regularly and as recommended. I would not run to buy any exercise machine to get there fast. Tummy needs specific exercise or you can leave it alone for now.

Foods that you buy from stores look for the ingredients on the package. You will become an expert if you follow this simple rule. Anything that has a paragraph leave it. Ice cream should have just cream, milk, sugar, flavor, and fruits and nuts. Anything more, please leave it. Don't bother reading further. Also the calories from fat must not be more than 25% of total calories. Less its better. Potato chips should only have four ingredients: potatoes, shortening, salt, and spices. Anything more just leave the bag. Apply this to everything you buy. What you will be doing is to reprogram your brain to look at life sustaining foods differently. Apply the same to meat products, if you are a meat eater.

At night, always eat fruit, pears, mangoes, or oranges. Along with your meal include a cup of raw spinach. If you don't like it, pour some dressing, and have a couple of walnuts. Salads are a key to eating well and being healthy but do not substitute salad for a whole meal, because you will starve and then likely gorge. Drink plenty of water. If you need chapstick, you are not drinking enough water.

Lastly if this is too demanding, you can walk down Walmart's main isle and pick up a plan that your doctor agrees to and join the club of a lot of dieters, and weight watchers. On that subject Weight Watchers works well for some people.

Okay. Cut out eating in between meals.
Only eat healthy food and cut down on Carb’s like bread, potatoes, pasta's, rice, cereals, lollies etc. These are the fat making foods. Learn exactly what your food groups are so you then know what puts the weight on and off.
Don’t add salt to your meals. Cut out soft drinks.
Then walk an hour every morning two hours after a meal and the same in the afternoon.
If you can jog in between both sessions you'll burn even more calories.
You should lose and continue to lose more weight as you go.
If you can cut out your lunch meal and replace it with a protein drink instead that would also help. Available in supermarkets.
As long as you can stay off junk food and eating in between meals. If you have to eat something in between have something like small raw carrots or celery sticks.
Summary:
Choose a cereal low in sugar for breakfast.
Lunch can be a protein drink. Like “Slim Right”.
And all normal meals at a normal serve. Cut down on potatoes and only have small portions of these.
Walking as much as you can.

The way not to do it is starve yourself, to start with. Just exercise and eat right. I did....lost 90 LBS because of it. Starving yourself won't help at all. Drink more water, eat less before bed, and don't eat for stress are the 3 things I follow and i'm going pretty well if i don't say myself. 90 LBS isn't anything like 5-10lbs so take my advice. How can i find out if my insurance will cover gastric bypass surgery?
