Please remember, though: everything you eat will be converted into glucose to feed the cells in your body and especially your brain. For meat and fish, the process takes much longer than for bread and fruit, but the outcome is always the same. If you eat more food than your body needs to run and grow, the extra glucose gets converted to fat and stored in your liver, around your organs and in your belly and butt. Those are your reserves for times when you cannot eat enough stuff to keep the body going. Sometimes, when you have enough fat in your body but insist on eating that extra sausage patty, it get metabolized right to the fat reserve.
Unless your job is digging ditches with a shovel every day, you probably get twice as many calories of food energy than you need every day.

Build muscle mass?

Im 16 (17 in 1 week), 65kgs, 174cm tall. Im pretty skinny but i have flab in some areas. I probably look skinny because i dont have much muscle mass on my body. How can i make muscle? the best way? i do weight training, 4 days (split days). I dont take any protein products afterwards, only milk or eggs, thats about it. Im thinking of getting a musashi product caled Musasi Bulk. What do you think?

Answers: You need to take in more calories than you burn.

Also, if you really want to bulk up fast, I suggest to to perform 2 workouts a day --- 12hours apart. Your morning workout would be your upper-body, while your evening workout would be your lower body.

Do this 3x a week for 8 weeks.


Using this method you have to EAT like a gorilla --- seriously. If you don't take in enough calories you will not grow.

EAT lots of meat. Eggs with baked potatoes are good. Pasta with half a brick of mozzarella is good too.

Notice the combo? Protein & carbs. LOTs of them! A good recipe are some non-bake peanut bars with honey mixed with your favorite protein powder.

You simply mix peanut butter, honey & protein powder until you get a nice firm mixture. Place this mixture into some waxed paper and roll it up. Place it into the fridge for 1 hour then cut into pieces.

You know have your own portable protein bars.

What Can substitute Chicken for my weight gaining program?

To clarify more in detail, my diet is 4000calories daily (consisting of Myoplex, bananas, udo's, brown rice, spinach, eggs, wheat bread, lentils, protein bars and other supplements) but I need to replace the only meat on the diet which is chicken. So is there something (other than what's already listed) that i can consume (being a new vegetarian) that is comparable to 12oz of chicken breast daily? The substitute needs it to be close to 420calories, 100(g) protein, 0 carbs, 12(g) fat. Any suggestions that meets this criteria? I've asked around, and no one seems to know of any specific answer,...please help. thanks.

eat beef or pork... but if you dont want those
try duck or turkey.
Turkey is higher in protein than chicken and leaner as well. But, if you're trying to stay away from meat, and you're not going to use fish, which is the best answer, try adding nuts - pine nuts, walnuts, peanuts, cashews, etc. And soy beans and tofu are both high in protein.

Buy only healthy foods to eat. Do not buy or accept gifts of unhealthy food. Do not eat unhealthy food.

keep a journal of everything you eat or drink.
I found that I ate better when everything I had eaten was written down for me to see.
Easy when you do your weekly shop only buy healthy foods that will last you for the week and don't cheat ! It works trust me I've lost a stone in weight.
I only buy healthy stuff no junk enters the house so i have to eat healthy..

I make my own icecream using skimmed milk, sweetner and fresh fruit in my icecream maker.

I make my own soup, using lots of vegetables..

I use 2 or 3 can's of tomatoes as a base then throw in what ever veg i have handy..
Use what ever seasoning you fancy, i make it spicy or curried normally..
Bring it to the boil then simmer it till the vegtables are cooked..
Then blend the mixture into a smooth puree or leave some to the side so you an add some back for a chunky spoup..

I put it in portions in the freezer so I always have something healthy to snack on..
Tip 1 Eat healthy!
Tip 2, look for good recipes.
If you find it hard to eat healthy because ou don't particularly like ealthy foods, you really do need to TRY and eat more of them. The more you eat a food you maybe don't particularly like you'll be suprised how you really become to like and enjoy it!

and if you eat enough healthy food, you need to think of the benefits, like the way its really helping your body to do all its jobs and clensing your system.

Remember you need to think of food as fuel for your body, so you need to put good fuel in there for it to work at it's best!!

How long for my tummy crunches to show results?

Hi guys ive recently taken up jogging(been doing it for about a month now)i jog about 10 miles a week and have recently(3 days ago)started doin sets of crunches and reverse crunches 2 times a day.I have a bit of fat on my stomach but not loads.Just wondering if i stuck to this how long it would take to notice considerable results.By the way im on a calorie counting diet and im a 25 year old male.Any answers would be much appreciated.

Jogging is considered High impact aerobics. It is out of favor, because it can cause hair line bone fractures, best is walking and or power walking, next is running (running burns almost double the calories then just walking).

There are many methods of power walking, in general it is fast pace walking with added twist like tying weights to the ankles and the wrist and moving arms in different ways while speed walking.

As a youg man I had no fat on my stomach, but it took about 6 week for my abs to tone to the extent that I showed six packs, and it became solid as a rock.

You said "I have a bit of fat.." so allow few more weeks (10 to 12 weeks or more).

You must count calories and at least in initial stages write down what you are going to eat and when then stay on that list. Your total calories for the week must not exceed, 1500 x 7 = 10,500 calories this will give you leave way to indulge at special occasions like wedding and parties, but you must write down what you eat and account for the calories latter and adjust the total intake next week.

Who needs to loose weight?

Answer is simply not every one, only the over weight person.

Who is over weight?

This is simple, it is easy to find out and it is available on line, it is call Body Mass Index, and calculations are simple. According to this calculation if you find your self say only 10 pounds more, you may not be over weight. Remember every one is slightly different and you can just watch it, on your own and not let it get out of hand.

What is the reason for being over weight?

This is also simple, have doctor check you out for any physical or hormonal abnormalities. The doctor should be advising you of your ideal weight even though you have already figured out the ideal weight and you are seen a doctor because your weight is not where it should be according to BMI.

Basic understanding of loosing weight.

Every one uses calories at all time. There may be some exceptions to this rule, for most of us; the rate of use, even when we are resting, we use 65 calories per hour minimum. This comes to1560 calories per day. The actual range is between 65 and 100 calories per hour. This is consistent with heart rate of 60 to 80 bits per minute.

Simply put any person eating only say 1500 calories a day will not put on any additional weight. At this level of calories consumption the person should loose some weight over long haul, depending on the individual rate of metabolism.

What is a healthy weight loss?

When one tries to loose weight, one should loose excess fat; there should be a healthy loss of weight. Loosing muscles tissue is unhealthy.

How much is one pound of body fat?

One pound of body fat weight is approximately same as one pound of butter. If you look at a one pound package of butter, you will see it contains between 3200 to 3600 calories. This means that each time a person burns 3600 more calories then what the person takes in, the person will loose one pound.

How many pounds should a person loose in a month?

Any one that is trying to trim down can figure out how long it took to put on the excess pounds. The fact is; it did not happen over night. It usually creeps up, but the person realizes one day suddenly.

This is why a person should not be in a hurry to loose weight. The person should start at once but go slowly. Do not wait for New Year.

Taking above in to consideration a person should not loose more then 2 pounds per month. If a person looses any thing more then that, chances are that the person will not be able to maintain the weight loss. It will take extra efforts to loose and it will take extra efforts to keep it off. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

At once. The person should not be in a hurry to loose weight. The person should start at once but go slowly. Again do not wait for New Year.

How does body react to weight lose?

Any time there is depletion of fat beyond certain level, the body reacts by slowing down metabolism, so that it can build up fat. If the body is use to say 2000 calories per day and detects only 1500 calories per day for considerable length of time it reacts to the situation by reducing the rate of metabolism. When this happens one need to help body by increasing activity. Usually takes about four weeks for body to react.

What is the relationship between body and body fat?

Under ideal condition fat act as a reserved energy source for our body. Certain level of fat is good for healthy living and even may save our life in certain life threatening situations. Every one should have minimum required level of fat on their body.

What if there is no weight loss at 1500 calories in take level?

This is a rear occurrence. Do not panic. The body has slowed down the metabolism to such a great extent that you must help it. The only way to help is to increase activities, this means you have to exercise. You do not need to join Gym but you can go on an an half an hour walk every day or batter still engage in a power walk for same duration. Power walk burns 250 calories per hour and walk burns 100 calories per hour approximately.

What is the importance of body fat for a female?

Females require little more body fat then men. In the absence of certain required level of body fat, females are not able to function properly; in particular they may not be able to conceive. You can find lot more about this on internet.

At 1500 calories intake per day what one must drink and eat?

Drink

One gallon of liquids most of witch should be in the form of water (zero calories).
Calories should be accounted for all other liquids.

Why water?

Water is a universal solvent, means it dissolves almost every thing at least in very minute quantities. This helps purification of body.

Eat

What should be your proportionate in take of fat, Proteins and Complex Carbohydrates?

This depends on what your need are.

1.Need to reduce fat.

Fat: 10 percent of 1500 calorie per day = 150 calories.
Complex Carbohydrates: 30 percent of 1500 calories per day = 450 calories.
Proteins: 60 percent of 1500 calories per day = 900 calories.

2.Need more energy.

Fat: 10 percent of 1500 calorie per day = 150 calories.
Complex Carbohydrates: 40 percent of 1500 calories per day = 450 calories.
Proteins: 50 percent of 1500 calories per day = 750 calories.

3.Need to reduce weight only.

Fat: 25 percent of 1500 calorie per day = 375 calories.
Complex Carbohydrates: 25 percent of 1500 calories per day = 375 calories.
Proteins: 50 percent of 1500 calories per day = 750 calories.

4.Need to increase muscles bulk, but still reduce weight.

Fat: 10 percent of 1500 calorie per day = 150 calories.
Complex Carbohydrates: 15 percent of 1500 calories per day = 225 calories.
Proteins: 75 percent of 1500 calories per day = 1125 calories.
Exercise the muscles you want to develop, you can find right exercise on line, recommend use of light weights.

Foot note: To take fat is so important, while reducing even fat, that it is included in all cases. If the fat is completely cut out, body will think of producing the fat, and will produce the fat by reducing metabolism, without fat in take, you may actually again weight even at lower than 1500 calorie level. You will feel run down and lethargic.

How one must, drink and eat?

Drink

Every one may not be able to follow this regime.

A 16 oz glass of water fist thing in the morning will be very healthy start.
If you need to stabilize your stomach before eating, you can have a glass of water just before each and every meal. This is the easiest way to meet your quota of gallon of liquids.

Eat

To day almost half the world is starving.

In western culture. Standard healthy practice for long time was three warm square meals per day. No eating in between, but children were allowed night cap.

All that has changed, present thinking is 5 to 6 times per day. Any way what practice one follows is up to them; to each his own.

Another best practice will be a glass of water before bed time, nothing to eat for two hours before bed time.

How do I know the calorie count for various drinks and food?

If you are buying packaged items it is on the package.

Go on the internet and find the calorie information.

Lots of cook book now a days list calorie per serving.
Use your best guess, in this method use higher figure then you have guessed.

How old are you?

Most people put on weight after age 40.

Any way before you try any thing, see a doctor to rule out any abnormalities (Hormone, Pituitary).

Remember it is ten times easier to put on the weight then to take it off.


Body building is opposite of weight loss. But you must understand weight loss in order to build body.

I will include my article on weight loss also.

Most people eat protein reach food and complex carbohydrates, with one thing in mind, that they have to exercise 6 days a week and they have to eat more than what they burn off each day.

If you eat about 300 to 400 more calories per day then you burn off, you have a weight gain of slightly less than one pound per week.

You need to eat about 4000 calories per day minimum.

If that does not work than slow down your exercises routine.

In extreme case you will not exercises for two weeks at all, followed by vigorous exercises routine for six weeks. Repeat this cycle again and again till you reach your goal.

Increasing the Height

In rear cases, you can increase the height up to age 30.

Cycling is good exercise and fun too.

You need to adjust the seat so that when you paddle from seating position you will actually stretch your legs, it is a difficult position but doable. For safety you need to be on track and not in traffic, safety first.

The FEW things I did at least helped me.

Swimming.

Not just playing in water, but serious laps type swimming, do not try to beat the clock but steady full strokes swimming. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

Stretching exercises on floor.

Find them on line.

Chin ups.

Full stretch type.

Swinging from a rope.

Full stretch climbing.

In other words do things that require stretching.

In the morning after good night sleep every one is about 1/2 inch to 1 inch taller. This is because the soft tissue between the bones recovers during the time when there is no weight on them.

Older people loose height due to bone loss. I was 5', 7'' I am only 5', 5".

Issue of Genes:

You know only the active genes but genes can stay dormant for generations.

I believe that every one has some tall height genes, dormant or active; I again believe that certain exercises can activate those.

Again Swimming:

You will start out with half a lap and build up day by day, half a lap at a time. Then you will swim non stop for 1/2 an hour.

The speed is not important but you must use various strokes and do them correctly, completely, slowly and perfectly. This way you will have full stretch, and its benefit.

Eating healthy foods and taking rest as specially sleeping soundly at night is very important. Most people need 8 hours of good sound sleep per night, some need more and few get by with 4 hours only.

In the mean time use high hills and take advantage of hair-do, wardrobe can do wonders too; vertical striped clothing can create a taller look for most people.

Hormones:

Under strict supervision of a doctor they do wonders but the side effects are delayed and unpredictable so doctors do not like to use them.

Surgical Procedures:

There are surgical procedures but most doctors will not do them till the person is 30 years or so. They also have to be very short.
2-3 weeks here is a diet to help you along with the muscle growth and so you can see maximum results in minimum time god luck !
Basic diet depending on whether you want to lose weight or gain obviously depends on how much to eat but typical recommendations…
.. Eat 6 meals a day if possible as its more efficient (but I never have tbh, as I don’t have time)
.. Balance diet about 60% Carbs 30% protein, 10% Fat normally for normal person
Change this ratio by decreasing carbs and increasing protein for Bodybuilding.
Change even further when bodybuilding and losing weight and also reduce fat %
.. Keep vegetables / Salad and mixed fruit in diet (5 a day) to get vitamins.
.. Choose between following food sources for protein..
Eggs (not too many yolks - too high in Colestoral and fat, so mainly whites)
Tuna (Careful not to eat more than about 3 to 4 times a week though - high in mercury)
Chicken
Turkey
Occasional red meat (e.g. steak)
Fish
… Choose between following for carbs
Vegetables, particularly potatoes and other green veg
Rice
Pasta
.. Don’t eat after 7pm if trying to lose weight
.. Don’t eat bread/fried food/sweets etc if trying to lose weight
If Bodybuiilding to increase size you may also need Protein drinks.
So a typcial day would be
Breakfast:
Egg Whites + 1 Yolk Scrambled or Protein Drink
Porridge
Mid Morning
Fruit
Further Protein if trying to gain muscle (e.g. Protein Drink)
Lunch
Tuna + Pasta + Salad

Afternoon
Protein Drink if trying to gain muscle
Tea
Chicken/Turkey or Fish + Veg (possibly rice or more pasta if not concerned about losing weight otherise miss out)

Only eat one further meal if looking at gaining weight/muscle.

If your lookinhg at losing weight then miss out all of the additional protein drinks and just vary the quanity of the food but stick with the basic mix.

Best way to quit smoking?

I'm a female 15 yearold and i intend to quit smoking for my future career as a cop. I'm not incredibly fit or even un-fit. Im fact a went for a 4 mile jog with a mate last nite....however slightly off topic.

As long as you eat under 2000 calories, does it matter how many calories may be in 1 meal?

they say it's best to eat a bunch of small meals throughout the day instead of eating all your daily calorie intake in one meal.

but anyway, it's not "calories" themselves that are "bad"...it's where those calories come from that need to be addressed; i could have a 400 calorie meal consisting of lean meat and veggies which would be much healthier than eating 400 calories worth of cheetos.

also, 2000 is the "average" calorie intake for a person (i believe the statistic is from caucasian males 18-25yo) needs to eat to maintain his bodyweight; typically moderate, daily activities expend that much energy and so what you eat should replace what you burn.
It really doesn't matter, so long as you stay under 2000 calories, if that's how many calories you need, anyway. Most of us need about that many calories.

Divide your calories evenly over the day. Some experts recommend you "breakfast like a king" and "sup like a pauper". In other words, most of your calories, they recommend, come in breakfast. Try and leave enough extra calories for a snack or two, because you'll probably get hungry between lunch and dinner, and maybe in the evening.

Yes it does. You should eat small meals throughout the day rather than one big one. I have two things that can hopefully explain the complicated human body in a simple way.

When you eat throughout the day the body's metabolism is more active because your body has to break down the food.

If you were to throw a large log onto a fire...the fire will still burn but very slowly. If you were to take smaller pieces of wood and put them on the fire, the fire would be constant and burn faster. That is the sam with food and your body.

A bear is a big animal and it has a lot of fat. The bear eats its meal in one sitting and the body holds onto it. A cow is also a big anmial but they are lean.....they graze constantly throughout the day.

Spread your meals throughout the day.
Yes it will affect your metabolism which is the rate that you burn calories!

A higher metabolism will burn more calories each day than a low one. If you skip meals your body tells itself to conserve so your metabolism slows down.

The best thing to do is divide those 2000 calories into 3 small meals with snacks in between! Do not skip breakfast!
It matters where the calories come from not how many. There are more diets than ever and more people dieting than ever and yet we have the fattest society ever. my doctor told me that calories in must be exceeded by calories out, so it all depends on your BMI to determine the amount of calories that a specific individual can consume before and still lose weight.

Are carbs as important as protein for building lean muscle/muscle mass?

im only 16 (17 this month). 144pounds and about 174cm. I do weight training, but i was stupid because i didnt take much protein, and i didnt put on much muscle. so my arms are skinny now, although i have some fat in areas which i will burn off with cardio. I dont want to burn fat straight away because i will look too skinny, i need to build muscle first.

Answers: You need carbohydrates, protein and fat in your diet. Protein heps build muscle, but you need carbs to fuel your body's metabolism and also carbs are important for brain function. They are all vital to your body.

Most people eat more than enough protein, you'd be suprised at how little you actually have to eat.

Really, you don't need a special product for this. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of whole grains, lean meat, vegetable and fruits.

Most muscle-building products are a rip off.
very important. make sure you add some fiber to the carbo ratio and drink plenty of hydrcarbons. it lowers your biological footprint

Body problem?

Answers: Check with your doctor to make sure their is not a medical reason why your aren't putting on weight.

Remember everybody has a different build some people are naturally skinny. Make sure you are eating enough...you don't have to be unhealthy but try to include a couple of serves of full fat dairy in your diet each day, and your wholegrain carbs along with your fruit and veg and let yourself have the occassional treat. Make sure your not overdoing it with the exercise either.
are you serious? I understand that you want to gain weight, but it is clearly obvious that you are not meant to. so stop trying. People would kill to be in your position, eating everything in site and not gain any weight.

It looks to me like you are going to have to suffer the horrible agony and torment of not being in the morbidly obese majority of the US population.
Try to complement a heavy weight lifting and take protein shakes in the morning and after everywork-out (even running), due to the fact that you want to gain weight, I suppose you mean you want to "bulk up".
Also, dont try to eat whatever crap you find, that will be bad for you.

How much percentage of your weight do you lift doing push ups?


Answers: not that much but it is less than your weight. so maybe 70% because your legs are on the ground and holding some of your weights up. TRY hand stand push ups and that is way better than regular push ups because you are lifting 100% of your weight just with your hands. and do it against the wall.
About 50% if you start from a level position. The higher you go, the less weight you lift.
If you wish to lift a greater amount, start with your feet on some steps (higher than your shoulders) so you angle downwards before starting.
