Diet Fitness Questions and Answers

Exercising seems easier?

Ive started on a workout at home and have completed my second week. I work out for 45 min. Is it odd that the workouts seems to be getting easier, and I am seeming more flexible then I was 2 weeks ago, or am I doing something wrong? Just until a couple days ago.. I was so sore, and seemed like it was impossible to get thru the next workout, and then all of a sudden it is getting easier...
Answers: You're not doing anything wrong, you are just getting stronger and in better shape. Make sure to increase your intensity and duration or you will stop seeing results.

Congrats!
The first week of exercise after a long time off is the worst your body will ever feel. Keep pushing yourself each week, and your body will continue to adapt. You should never do the exact same workout twice! Go longer, go faster, or go heavier.

Why do people use laxatives to lose weight? What does it do?

Answers: They do it because they think it helps them lose weight, but it doesn't. Laxatives affect the large intestine, but all of the calories and nutrients we eat are absorbed in the small intestine. By the time the laxative works, all the calories have already been absorbed.
That's being stupid! Because they can kill themselves!
Anorexic people are really silly! they make themselves vomit to throw up the food they just had.
Some obese people use laxatives to give them diarrhea and that can kill.

How fast did you lose weight on the low carb diet?

So I am getting married next year, and I have wanted to lose weight for awhile, and have tried a million things. My mom has been trying to get me to do the low carb thing, which sounds hard, but she has gotten great results. I just started today, and I am optimistic. I was just curious to see how people lost weight on it, and how fast you did? How much did you lose? Any good recipes that might curb cravings for carbs? Thanks to all of you!
Answers: If I had a nickle for every time I was asked this question...
Carbohydrates are ESSENTIAL. They are the only source of energy for the brain. You need 130 grams of carbs per day for the brain to work properly. Also, you can not burn fat without carbs. Your diet should consist of 45-65% of calories from carbs, 20-35% of calories from protein and 20-35% of calories from fat. The types of fat should be mono and polyunsaturated because these have greater health benefits. Less than 10% of your fats should come from saturated fats. Carbs are needed for energy. Without them your body will use your protein before it will use your fat because it takes more energy to burn fat and fat is a much better energy source then protien and the body wants to conserve it for periods of starvation.

And how fast did they gain it all back after they stopped the diet??! Do not deprive your bodies of carbohydrates. They are not your body's enemy, and neither is fat, or protein. You need balance! This is a section of the book called, "Weight Loss That Lasts" by James M. Rippe, M.D.: PLEASE READ IT ALL, I know it's long!
"The way carbohydrates are stores and processed in the body is different from that for fats. Insulin plays an important role in the metabolism of carbohydrates. The body produces insulin in a finely regulated way to manage the inflow of blood sugar after eating. Carbohydrates act like a sponge in the body. Every gram of carbohydrate that is stored in the body as glycogen, a type of carb the body uses to meet short term energy needs, holds in to an additional 3 GRAMS OF WATER. When the body uses up glycogen, it also releases water and extra weight. This phenomenon creates the ILLUSION of a quick loss of body fat. Carbohydrates are essential. Carbohydrates in the form of a sugar called glucose are the preferred source of energy by the body. This conversion process is a fundamental part of the digestion and metabolism of food. For some parts of the body, including the brain, glucose is the only fuel source that can be used to meet energy needs. The need for glucose is so important to our survival that, when deprived of carbohydrates, the body will take extreme metabolic actions to manufacture the glucose that it needs. It has systems in place that, if required, can take the protein out of muscle, strip off the nitrogen bits that make it a protein, and convert the rest to glucose. Over time this process is quite detrimental, potentially resulting in a buildup of nitrogen that leads to the development of kidney stones or gout. The body will sacrifice MUSCLE for glucose in order to survive. *****Based on a complete review of the human need for glucose, the Institute of Medicine has set the Recommended Daily Allowance for carbohydrates at a minimum of 130 grams per day. Following an extreme diet that restricts carbs to less than 130 grams per day means that the body must resort to survival systems to make its own glucose, usually at the cost of muscle, to meet its minimal needs. Many extreme low-carb diets require that you eat no more than 20 grams of carbs per day. To put that into perspective, a cup of milk has 12 grams of carbs, a slice of regular bread has 15, and a large apple has 20 grams. In addition to being the body's preferred source of energy, foods rich in carbs contain several ESSENTIAL nutrients that are important for nutritional health and disease prevention. Beyond meeting basic nutritional needs, making food choices that include a wide variety of wholesome carbohydrate rich foods has consistently been shown to lead to a reduced risk of many chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, kidney disease, osteoporosis, and several forms of cancer"*****
Please do make sure you are getting the recommended 130 grams or more per day of carbohydrates. If the diet does not meet that recommendation, try something else, maybe Weight Watchers because that program does NOT restrict food or nutrients or anything. It's more flexible and livable for the rest of your life. (It's worked for me for the past 4 years) It's worth it to at least try it out.

Why have i gotten fatter in 5 days?

In June, i was 108 lbs., 5'0 tall, 13 yts old, and 29"waist. Over summer I got really porky. I gained 45 lbs, sending me from 108 to 153, at 5'0 tall, 13 yrs, and 47 inch waist. Now this was all in late september-early october. My parents hired a nutritionist and he came on Monday, and i had gained 6 lbs since i last weighed myslef. So i then weighed 159, with 49.5 inch waist, the nutritionist left and just left a 1/2 hour ago. He weighed me, and took waist and BMI. Not only have i gained 3 lbs. since monday, but 1inch on waist, and now i have a BMI of 31.7. SO my parents are taking me to the doctor tomorrow to see what is wrong. Why am i still gaining? Have become obese? What is wrong with Me? Why am i so fat?
Answers: It all depends on what you have been eating, and how much excersise you get. I can sort of relate. I am the third fattest person in my class, and it's really weird because I used to be one of the skinniest. Just try to eat less junk and more healthier foods, get a lot of excersise, and if the doctor says there is something wrong, do exactly what he says.
ur matabolism is probably changin. i dont think ur obese and nothin is rong w/ u. try to eat healthy and stay away from sweets. only eat wen ur really hungry not wen u just want food. also excercise and dont watch more than an hour and a 1/2 uf tv a day

Im 25 & i want 2 start a family but i dont want to be / feel like this.

Also the last week or 2 i been felling very sleepy.
Answers: i heard one idea, which was to take a photo of yourself ( same position every time, standing and side on)once a month in your undies, so you can actually see how you are changing as your diet progresses.
also you could try letting a friend know how you are doing each week, maybe then you would feel more motivated because you'd want to be telling them you'd lost some.
little of everything sounds a fair starting point on a diet, smaller amounts. then try cutting out the sweet stuff and pastry etc...
I wish you all the best. and I am sure you'll be successful.xx
make an appointment with a dietian...theyll give you some tips specifically for you...
Good Luck :D
streth training is the best way to lose the pounds start lifting weights to gain muscle

muscle burns fat
Cardio and diet are how you lose weight. In addition, strength training helps boost your metabolism and make you faster and stronger.

You don't need to cut your food "in half". That kills your metabolism. You need to cut out 500 calories a day, and exercise at least 4 days a week. Start out with 30 minutes of cardio, and add time each week until you're up to about an hour. You should lose 1-2 pounds a week.

In addition, do strength training at least twice a week, and you'll look better, and feel better. For someone out of shape, strength training will boost your metabolism much longer than low-intensity cardio, so you'll still be burning fat when you're done.

Too much fiber?

Yesturday I had a bowl of cereal, alot of coffee with splenda, alot of water, some pretzels, animal crakers, and a HHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEE... salad with fat free italian dressing. No i am not trying to lose weight it is just my food preference. Anyways, by about seven thirty that night I had really really bad stomach cramps. Could this have anything to do with my diet? (I also exercised that morning for about 45 minutes.)
Answers: I doubt it had to do with your fiber, it doesn't even look like you ate 25 grams, the recommended daily value for a female under 50. The only things you ate with fiber are the cereal and salad. Check into the coffee, splenda, and dressing. Coffee can easily upset people's stomachs, splenda isn't perfectly natural, and salad dressing has an ingredient (xanthan gum) that causes cramping.
The Recommended amount of fiber for Americans is 25-38 grams. Most can not consume this amount because they normally don't. The body must get used to fiber gradually. Also, there are two types of fiber, Soluble and Insoluble. Soluble will dissolve in water and provide more health benefits as opposed to Insoluble which absorbs water and increases fecal bulk. The Insoluble fiber is most likely what hurt your stomach.

What kind of beans has the most amount of protein in it?

Answers: Most beans yield the same amount of protein per gram. Beans alone are a good source of protein but are not a complete source of protein. This means that they do not have all nine essential amino acids in them. Beans should be consumed with grains to ensure all nine essential amino acids are consumed.

any more questions feel free to email me at gmrw88@yahoo.com
Proteins are made up of Amino acids and they vary in every
food. Even meat will have different compositions of amino acids. Just eat a variety of food and you will get all you need.

I weigh 115 lbs. and i'm 6'0 male... how can i gain weight fast?

Not particularly fatty weight, but muscle too... i dunno
Answers: You are what's called an ectomorph. It basically means that you're extremely lean and have a difficult time gaining weight. What's important for to understand is that you're body is drastically different from that of the majority of the population. So, be very careful who take advice from. If you follow the same routine as someone with a thicker build you will most likely make no progress.

The most important thing is to eat more. Seriously, you need to take in around 4,000 calories a day spaced out over six meals. This seems like a ridiculous amount, but it is possible.

There is way too much for me to condense it into this format, so I would highly recommend that read these two books: "Scrawny to Brawny" by John M. Berardi, and "The Hardgainer's Body Building Handbook" by Hugo Rivera. These are both excellent resources, because most training books don't have your body type in mind.

I answered a very similar question here, you may want to check it out.

i was just studying this in health. ill even take out my book:]
*increase caloric intake, especially food high in complex carbs such as breads, pasta, rice and potatos
*eat more frequently, take second helping
*eat nutritious snacks, but space them two to three hours between meals to avoid spoiling ur appetite

i also know that ur supposed to eat alot of protein wen ur trying to gain weight with muscle
dont eat food like thos hostesss cookies and stuff becuz they just turn into fat.
ur gunna have to workout if u want to gain muscle. if u just eat lots of food its just gunna be fat and u prolly wont look better, u might look worse.
ik skipping breakfast makes u lose weight so either eat no breakfast or a reallly big breakfast.

good luck!
Don't listen to the people who say eat at Mcdonald's.You don't want to be that way.Muscle weighs more than fat.Go for that

Cardio vs. Strength training?

If I am doing both in the same day, is it beneficial to do one before the other?
Thanks!
Answers: I usually do at least a little bit of cardio before weights to loosen up. It depends on whether you want a more intense cardio or weight lifting session, really. Do the bulk of whichever one you want to be more intense first. If you loose energy through either, pop a few almonds or some energy gel in your mouth.
Short answer: Strength training.

Strength training is anaerobic and requires blood sugar. If you're lifting heavy, or for an extended period of time (more than 30 minutes), you want to ensure you have a good reserve. A cardio session will likely deplete this, and make your lifting less productive.

If you're doing very intense cardio, you'll also need sugars, or your body will start burning up your muscles for fuel. You may want to have a protein supplement or some gatorade to help prevent this.

I don't like to get up early, so I lift heavy for about an hour before doing 50 minutes of cardio 4 days a week. I carb up 30min-1hr before I work out, have gatorade with a glutamine supplement during my workout, and then immediately have a whey protein shake and some more carbs when I finish.

Can anyone explain Bench Press?

Why does incline target upper pecs, and decline target lower pecs? Can you explain the physics of it to me?
Answers: The upper and lower pecs are two seperate heads of the pectoralis major. As the angle of your upper arm changes, the muscle is simply recruited differently.

There are three variants of the bench press: incline, flat, and decline. You're progressively stronger on each of these because the movements are less dependent on the shoulder, and more dependent on the lower, larger head of pecs.
personally, it doesnt matter if u do an incline, decline of flat press. they ALL work the pecs!
Pec r 2 parts i belive, Pectoral Major & Pectoral Minors
All tat body atonomy stuff... yucks
Incline press, the major supporting/working muscle is ur shoulders & triceps
decline? Pec minors & triceps. & ur abs 2, doin e work
