Diet Fitness Questions and Answers
How do i get rid of love handles?
I've gained some weight and I'm starting to notice my love handles are getting fatter. How do i get rid of them without surgery?Answers: Here are a few tips:
1. You MUST exercise if you want to lose weight and keep it off, so do something every day, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood. Don’t say you don’t have time for exercise; you have to MAKE time. Yes, it takes time and effort, but you’re worth it, right?
2. Walk as much as you want, but don’t do cardio for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you do, you risk burning muscle instead of fat.
3. If you do strength training, use light weights and do lots of repetitions. That’ll really help you “tone up.”
4. Your diet will make you or break you. You have probably learned bad eating habits over time (most people do). That’s not your fault, but now you have to deal with it. Make a commitment to yourself to unlearn those bad habits and re-learn better habits.
5. Eat breakfast every day within an hour of getting up. People who don’t are 450% more likely to be overweight.
6. Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three squares per day or one big meal per day. Your body expends energy digesting your food, so eating smaller portions more often keeps your metabolism running high because you’re constantly digesting food.
7. Avoid these as much as possible:
-- Trans fat (any type of partially or fully hydrogenated oil)
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks are LOADED with it)
-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- White sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-- The deadly C’s (cookies, cakes, candy, chips, cola)
8. Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:
-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!)
-- Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
-- Eggs
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
-- Olive oil
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
-- Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea)
-- Cold water or ice water (your body has to expend extra calories to heat it up)
9. Desserts and treats are the exception, not the rule. Having said that, however, (1) you can have a couple of pieces of chocolate every day – just don’t overdo, and (2) Allow yourself one “cheat meal” every week where you eat and drink whatever you want as long as you don’t gorge yourself. That’ll help keep you from feeling deprived and it’ll make it easier to stick with your new healthy eating plan.
Good luck!
never heard abt love handless, but why would that need a surgery?
What are the main differences between Omega 3 & Omega 6 oils?
Answers: Both the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids belong to a group of polyunsaturated fats called 'essential' because they are necessary to life and to health yet we cannot make them in the body - they must be obtained from diet. They cannot be inter-converted and both must be present in the diet in a proper balance for good health.
Their differences lie in their chemical structure and their roles in the body.
As polyunsaturated fatty acids, both the omega-6 and the omega-3 families have more than one double bond in the carbon chain. All fatty acids in the omega-6 family contain their first double bond between the 6th and 7th carbon atoms (counted from the methyl (CH3) terminal carbon atom and the omega-3 family of fatty acids have their first double bond between the 3rd and 4th carbon atom.
Both families of fatty acids are vital components of membranes and are used by the body in the production of eicosanoids, a vast range of highly bioactive substances (prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and lipoxins) but the activity of these metabolites varies. For example, the eicosanoids derived from omega-6 are in general more active (or reactive) than those produced from omega-3 and omega-6 is aggregatory whereas oega-6 is pro-aggregatory.
Basically, the omega-3s have anti-inflammatory benefits and help prevent heart disease, whereas omega-6s lower blood cholesterol and support the skin.
Like all fats, EFAs provide energy. Their calorific value is similar to other fats and oils but, unlike saturated fats, they have important health roles. In fact, as their name suggest, they are essential and must be consumed regularly as the body has limited storage for them.
Both of the important EFA families - omega-6 and omega-3 - are components of nerve cells and cellular membranes. They are converted by the body into eicosanoids, leukotrienes and prostaglandins - all of which are needed on a second-by-second basis by most tissue activities in the body.
EFAs are involved in normal physiology, including:
* Regulating pressure in the eye, joints, and blood vessels, and mediating immune response
* Regulating bodily secretions and their viscosity
* Dilating or constricting blood vessels
* Regulating collateral circulation
* Directing endocrine hormones to their target cells
* Regulating smooth muscles and autonomic reflexes
* Being primary constituents of cell membranes
* Regulating the rate of cell division
* Maintaining the fluidity and rigidity of cellular membranes
* Regulating the inflow and outflow of substances to and from cells
* Transporting oxygen from red blood cells to the tissues
* Maintaining proper kidney function and fluid balance
* Keeping saturated fats mobile in the blood stream
* Preventing blood cells from clumping together (blood clots that can be a cause of heart attack and stroke)
* Mediating the release of inflammatory substances from cells that may trigger allergic conditions
* Regulating nerve transmission and communication
* If the diet is deficient in either omega-6 or omega-3 long-term degenerative illnesses will result.
However, because the end product (eg prostaglandin, leukotriene) of EFA metabolism differ slightly but significantly from omega-6 to omega-3, they must be present in balance for optimum health.
Both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are essential but the body requires them in a ratio that is not normally achieved by the typical diet of today's industrialized nations.
Omega 3 Omega 6 Salmon Experts think that man evolved on a diet which would have had roughly 1-2 times more omega-6 than omega-3, though there is a school of thought which argues for a 1:1 ratio. (Currently, average UK intakes are in a ratio of around 8:1 in favour of the omega-6s, while in the US it is around 10:1 and in Australia nearer 12:1. Many individuals within those populations will have an even greater omega-6 to omega-3 imbalance).
Sources of Omega 3 Fats:
Cold water fish, tuna, cod liver, halibut, herring, mackerel, trout, salmon, sardines.
Sources of Omega 6 fats:
Sunflower seeds, seed oils, corn, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, nuts, meat, dairy products.
Whats the easiest way to find your heart rate?
Answers: Firmly press middle and index finger under corner of jaw, searching for artery. Count for 10 seconds. Multiply by 6 for "beats per minute" (bpm).
When resting, the average adult human heart beats at about 70 bpm (males) and 75 bpm (females); however, this rate varies among people and can be significantly lower in athletes. "Normal" resting rate range for an adult is 60-100.
The inside of the wrist on the side of the thumb (radial artery) ,
The neck (carotid artery),
The inside of the elbow, or under the biceps muscle (brachial artery)
The groin (femoral artery),
To find it.?..like putting your first two fingers against the largest vein on the side of your neck...or like...Using a heart monitor to monitor your heart rate..your question wasn't completely clear to me
Can the pill make you gain lots of weight.?
I just had my baby 8/3/07 and felt that i was lossing my baby fat. I started taking the pill and feel as if i've gained a little more.I know i should give it more time to loss it. I"m taking ortho tri-cyclenAnswers: YES! I feel like my body has been a yo-yo for the past few years and I can say it lines up exactly when I've been on the pill... Talk to your doctor about getting an IUD, my doctor said it's better for women who have had children, or else I would go on it myself. It's good for like 5 years, you don't have to remember anything, and it's not like hormones pumping through your blood stream... Good luck!
take care of diet also
Do i still need to lose weight?
I'm 12 years old, 136 pounds and 5'3...my BMI says that i'm overweight but the thing is that my bra size is a D36...am i still overweight, or are my boobs just making it seem like i am....??Answers: First and foremost, you're going to get a lot of answers telling you how you shouldn't worry, your self image is what counts over body health, and you can always wait until a later age. That's complete bollux
First and foremost, being obese is UNHEALTHY. It's as bad as if you're a smoker. Heart disease is one of the number one killers in the US, and being obese is a MAJOR contributing factor to heart disease.
Second, the human body is EXTREMELY adaptive. If you are overweight by the age of 14 your body is already adapting to that kind of lifestyle. If you're waiting until the time you turn 25 to become concious about your physical health, then you're going to have to work 20 times harder to lose weight and make your metabolism fit a healthy lifestyle.
If I were you I would be doing the following:
Eat: 1,200 Calories per day. That should put you at an approximate weight of 120 pounds. If you excercise a lot, remember to increase your calorie intake for those days if you lose weight under 120, add about 50 more calories a day... if you equalize at a lower weight but just can't get down to 120 lbs, then subtract 50 calories a day.
Yes, calorie counting is important. Also, don't forget to excercise. Your metabolism counts on activity, and without engaging the muscles in your body you enter hybernation mode where your body will naturally store more fat.
Boobs don't really weight that much.
Talk to your doctor. You don't sound very overweight to me, but I'm not a professional.
at ur age, don't botter too much

I exercise 45 minutes a day, 3-5 times a week,?
and since i started i feel my appetite has increased, is that normal and why it that? also i'm 140, 5'5 skinny arms and legs, but i carry my fat on midsection, if i keep working out at this pace, how long should it take to loose 20 lbs? maybe if you have experience loosing weight? let me know, oh and i'm 24 years oldAnswers: Your metabolism is working on a higher level and your brain knows that and tells you to eat more , it's a good thing because that means that your building muscle and endurance
It is natural for your appetite to increase because you are burning calories. You need to be doing exercises that will effect your abs.
My suggestion would be to get a Tae Bo tape and do those exercises. I lost 35 pounds in 10 weeks doing these exercises and watching what I eat.
Its normal..
This is my theory and this is what works for me. Everyone is different so it may need to be adjusted to your own personal needs.
Energy In/Energy Out
Food Intake: 1,200 Per Day
One Pound equals 3,500 Calories
To loose one pound per day, You need to burn your food intake plus your one pound of fat
1,200 (intake) + 3,500 (Outtake) = 4,700 Calories Burn
You must burn at least 4,700 Calories everyday to loose one pound at least. It is very easy to go up and beyond 4,700 calories each day.
Best way to do this is to track your progress on a calorie counter monitor watch. If you do it by the numbers you can loose the weight. It is just a matter of changing the way you think about weight loss.
Once you start wearing your calorie counter you can see the numbers increase and you fill find yourself doing extra things in your day, like tapping your foot while waiting at the light in your car, chewing gum, singing out loud and so on onto of your workout routines. You begin to see that everything you do in your day contributes to the overall numbers needed to loose that pound.
I, myself, have done this recently. Two weeks later, I lost one pant size and 10 pounds. And that is just my current progress. I have used this method previously after childbirth and have gone from 168 to 127 pounds with in two months.
I personally burn 1,000 calories by Walking in my community for one hour in the morning and I also burn 1,000 calories by simply using a stationary bike while playing xbox. I get so involved in playing xbox that I completely forget I am pedaling or working out. Think about it..How many hours have you spent playing video games..why not burn calories while you are doing it.

Water Intake/Less Storage
Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 to 80 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.
Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.
____
Good Food
My favorite things to eat:
Avocado Wraps
Simple: Low Carb Tortilla, Half Avocado sliced, alpha sprouts, lettuce, soy bacon...Just wrap it up and eat. You can vary the things you put inside so long as you keep it to approx 4 or 5 items. You want to make sure they are fresh, low calorie and filling. Avocado and mushrooms can replace meats in your meal and still have great taste.
Special K Cereals are fantastic. They have that sweetness that one craves and is so good for you. Calories are low. Great for even just dinner.
First thing in the morning...A Glass of Chocolate Milk. Yup!! Chocolate Milk. We all crave that "got to have" item in the morning. Milk is the best thing you can have for yourself while working out. The chocolate (and you can use Carnation Instant Milk for this but I simply use Nestle dry mix) will give you that sweet "snack" that you need. If you give your body a little bit of it and its in a control way, you will not crave sweets and junk the rest of the day.
Lean Cuisines
Fantastic food! Each meal is approx 180 t0 380 calories per box. So think about your calories. 1,200...You can still have several of these meals a day and still be under your intake requirements.
It’s all about the numbers and watching what you take in and what you burn out. And you know what..If you go over your 1,200 mark for food intake...that’s okay...you simple up your total calories burned for the day by what you took it. So long as you burn off the over all calories to be more than your food intake. Just make sure you stick too it so you can reach your weight loss goals.
Fruits and Veggies
All you want on the schedule listed below.
Bananas are my favorite. They are very filling and can make a meal all on their own.
____
Vitamins
My favorite is ONE A DAY WITH ENERGY...I am in love with this vitamin because I am just like everyone else who loves those quick fix energy drinks. But what people do not realize is that energy drinks can contain 120 to 440 calories in just ONE Can. If you think about it..That is HALF of your allowed calories for food intake. The best alternative I have found is One a day with energy vitamin. Easy to spot, it is packaged in a green label bottle. Just One vitamin a day will give you as much energy as approx. 1 1/2 cans of red bull...WITHOUT the calorie intake.
WoW..now your making progress already because you have made more room in your intake calories for actual healthy food.
_____
Soda/Carbonation
Carbonation is terrible for your system because it bloats your stomach. And when your stomach bloats, your jeans just don't fit. You can drop one pant size simply by NOT drinking any carbonated drinks all together..Take away the bloat and you have instantly just made it one pant size lower. Besides, Sodas dehydrate you and with that One a Day Vitamin, you won't need the Caffeine in the soda and it will also cut out those extra calories that you don't need.
So remove that soda and the energy drinks and just think how much calories you just instantly removed from your daily intake. I normally consume what...four sodas and two energy drinks in one day...that is a total of .... 900 calories. Of what? Nothing...Those are horrible calories and calories that can be replaced by food which will fuel your body for your day and your workouts.
____
Your Body
Your body is like a computer. You must program your body to do what it is suppose to do so it won't crash and leave you with a virus. Your stomach is only the size of your fist. So think about it right now, Look at your hand and close your fist. Not very big is it. That is how much food you actually ONLY need to eat, each time you eat for every meal. If you eat anything more than that, you will stretch out your stomach which causes overeating and overweight.
What you need to do is eat every three hours, approx 5 to 7 times everyday around the same time. If you are always giving your body healthy and better food choices (the size of your fist) every three hours, your body will know you are giving it food. It will use that food properly. It will not go into starvation mode or store food away for later because it knows...it will get more in three hours. So what does your body do...it flushes everything out of your system because it doesn't need it.. Now it knows...you wont' forget about it and that food is on its way.
____
Walking Buddy
This is the best thing especially for woman. Get a walking buddy. One hour everyday. Just think about how much talking, venting and laughing two woman can do together while walking and yup, you guessed it...it just burns more calories and reduces your stress. You now are more relaxed because you can talk and free yourself of whatever is frustrating you while getting into shape.

you are over doing it, that is why the appetite has increased....
maybe it is what you are eating.... that is hindering you....
try following a food guide and work with it for a couple weeks and see if it is helpful.
some people process certain foods better than others..try more green and uncooked veggies, lean chicken, fruit less starch, less dairy, salt and sugar...
you should be losing 2 lb per week with what you are doing.....
maybe your exercise regimen needs some tweaking, try a trainer for a week and see what happens...
Yes it is ok that your appetite has increased you work all your energy off and your body is asking for more. The work out schedule is good but you have to watch what you eat. Make sure you get enough dairy, veggies, carbs, fats, protein and fibers, you need, and yes i said carbs. You are allowed to have carbs and fat calories but they must be limited. Also watch your calorie in take, no you don't have to count just get a general idea keep it around 2,000 and on the days you work out you can get a little higher if you would like. Just keep working out and eventually it will all come along. But whatever you do don't get discouraged and quite!
Good Luck!!
Your appetite increasing is normal since you're exercising more and if you're trying to lose weight, I will also assume that you've reduced your caloric intake as well.
I have lost 15 lbs recently and it is not my first time losing weight. I've battled with it for a long time. I used to keep a food diary and I read once that it takes 3500 calories to lose one pound. So I try to look at it like it was math, makes it easier for me. Don't know about you. But here goes...
First of all, I will assume that you are eating healthy, not starving yourself and exercising moderately for those 45 minutes/day. If you were to eat 500 calories less each day, then you would lose 1 lb in a week (500 calories x 7 days = 3500 calories; 3500 calories = 1 lb.). Continuing, eating 1000 calories less each day, you would lose 2 lbs in a week.
(1000 calories x 7 days = 7000 calories; divide that by 3500 and you get 2 lbs in a week). Make sense? Also, it is not very health to lose more than 2.5 lbs in one week. So be careful. I know there are alot of fad diets out there that are tempting. Also, try to moderate your exercise - too much is not healthy either. Switch it up if you're bored - it doesn't always have to be in the gym.
So back to the food - you'd have to also look at what you eat during each day and subtract what you expend each day to get your daily total.
You need to know your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and then find out what your caloric intake for "maintenance" would be.
This helps you to get your baseline before you start changing anything else.
For example, if your BMR is 1500 and you are moderately active, 1500 x 1.55 = 2325 calories a day. This is the amount of calories you would need to maintain your weight. If you want to lose weight, you can lower the amount of food you eat and/or exercise. So let's say, you walked the dog for 30 minutes and weight 150 lbs - this means you would have burned off about 150 calories. So that would be subtracted from what you have eaten during the day, etc..
Lasltly, have you ever given any thought to those weight loss programs like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig? You can talk to many people in similar situation as yourself and get support as you lose weight.
I hope I have not completely confused you. It took me awhile to get it all straight as well. Good Luck.
you're metabolism is speeding up (Good!) from regular exercise, making you appetite increase. It is good to eat healthy low-cal snacks and small meals all day long to keep your metabolism going. Fast metabolism is what will burn fat. I'm not sure how long it will take though. Just keep up the good work, and increase your lean muscle too (that also helps increase metabolism and burn fat). Good luck!
Tips to lose back fat?
Answers: back fat?
exercise and diet
If you want to reduce your weight, you need to do a lot of exercise to accelerate your metabolism. It's better if you do cardiovascular exercise, because this kind of exercise helps you burn fat...
You should begin with a good eating plan, combining fats and sweets with fruits and vegetables. It will be better if you drink at least eight glasses of water daily to control your calories and your cholesterol.
If you want you can use some pills to control your weight and to accelerate the process of burning fat.
I know some pills which you can use to reduce your weight. Those pills are Xenical and Hoodia. Their results are excellent and fast.
Losing weight....??
I'd like to lose roughly about 15 lbs. I weigh 115, and am probably, 5'6".I'm still growing.I exercise daily, and eat probably 1400 cals. a day...Ways to efficiently lose weight AND keep it off?
I'd like to have the weight off by Nov. 22.
What is the BEST workout? I prefer walking briskly.:)
And ways to tone ones body?
Thanks!
Answers: Your current calorie intake is fine... which indicates you have a healthy workout regimen (otherwise you'd be gaining weight). You'll RARELY see me tell someone who says they need to lose weight that they need to reconsider (since so many are obese these days) but in your case that is different.
You're 5'6" and 115... that's SMALL hun. At 100 lbs, you'd weigh 5 lbs more than my girlfriend who is 5 inches shorter than you. If anything, stay with your current routine. If you're going to up your workout for better toning (lifting small weights over many reps) then you'll need to greatly increase your calorie intake to make up for that deficit as well.
For "Smile": a 2000 calorie a day diet will make ANYONE that size gain weight unless they're working out a lot. The general figure is that you get 10 calories per pound for no working out... that means 1150 to maintain a body weight of 115 pounds... except if you are working out (and metabolic process of growing at the age of 15), which is why she's able to consume 1400 calories a day and not gain weight. Hell, i weigh 178 pounds and during recovery from an injury even *I* didn't eat a 2000 calorie a day diet...
If you are 5'6" and 100 lbs, you will be unhealthy and underweight with a body mass index of only 16.
You are perfect at 115. If you go down to 100, you won't have anything to tone.
I would suggest using 2.5 lb barbells and getting a good guide to show you how to use them properly to tone your arms. Sit ups and crunches to tone your tummy, and try walking hills to tone your legs.
well, if you are 15 or older then getting down to 100 pounds would make you underweight...1400 calories should already be making you lose weight anyway because a healthy diet for someone you wants to maintain their weight is approximately 2000 calories a day. You are already at a healthy weight and since you exercise daily then i see no need for you to try to lose weight...if it needs to come off, it will...
hope i helped :) <3
You don't weigh enough already. You shouldn't lose weight.

How do I get energy and motivation to excercise?
what gives you motivation?Answers: When you are runing some good music is a realy good motivation
GOOD LUCK
Energy comes from drinking water.
Motivations...I get it from looking at BoA and LeeHyori
Try some good multi-vitamins, drink plenty of water and start out slowly to give your body time to adjust to the new program, as you start to feel better, the energy will come naturally. Your diet is also important, eating healthy foods will give more energy and get plenty of rest, a good balance will provide a feeling of well being. Soon you will be on-top-o-the-world. Be sure to check out anything with your dr if you take any medications and your exercise plan if you have any health issues.
Suggestions for diet?
I have been on prednisone for 1 1/2 month due to a medical condition that I developed. That that I am ok and the dr has taken me off I have gained so much weight with it. I have ordered Pilates equipment and video and etc but as far as diet I don't know what to eat or what. I have never had a weight problem so this is all new to me. If anyone has any suggestions of a diet or food to stay from or whatever please let me know. I am wanting to lose about 30-40 lbs that I gained. I am very determined also.Answers: Curves is the best. Have you ever heard of it? If you haven't, you could go on www.curves.com.
Eat only organic foods. Go to farmers markets and butcher shops to get all your food. You will have to learn how to cook though. So eating only fruit, vegtables, lean meat, fiber, wheat, low fat yogurt.... will also work.
