Diet Fitness Questions and Answers
I am trying to lose weight?......................?
I am trying to lose 20 pounds in a month but I have a real problem. I so not have any will power. I can't stay focus long enough to eat healthy and avoid fatty foods. If I am on a diet and I am surrounded by fatty foods, there is an 80% chance that will eat some of it. I definitely need some will power to lose my 20 pounds in a month. Any suggestions a to what I can do? What do you suggest? Any help?Answers: Hey Precious... wow. 20 lbs in a month is difficult. I dropped 30 lbs a few years ago over the course of 6 months...and that was tough. I have, however, been able to keep it off.
Some things I did, that may help you.
1)Exercise and keep a food journal.
2) I switched to diet drinks and water. I am a HUGE Dr. Pepper fan and found I was drinking A LOT of calories... i drank 4 per day. I switched to the diet version, which was not easy for me...but I read that you can gain 10-12 lbs a year just in what you drink.
3) Don't go grocery shopping while hungry. It will all look good and the most fattening foods will end up in the cart.
4) Don't buy fattening or sugary foods. Only buy healthier stuff than what you've been eating. Make gradual, educated decisions on diet changes. It will be easier to maintain and also easier to change in the first place. IF YOU DON'T BUY IT YOU WON'T HAVE IT TO EAT.
5) I think it's advisable to do BABY STEPS when losing weight. Make one change, get comfortable with it, then go to another. You will reduce the risk of failure because you are not trying to change everything at once. Step 1 for me was the soft drinks. Step 2 for me was ditching unhealthy snack foods. Step 3 for me was to learn labels.... etc, etc.
6) My biggest piece of advice here is to understand that you cannot lose and maintain a good weight unless you give up the idea of dieting. What really needs to happen is a life-style change. That's why I say baby steps are important. If you change one thing at a time and get comfortable with it, then you accept it as your new habit. Old habits don't go away, they must be replaced with better ones.
AS for shot-gunning a 20 lb weight loss into a month...it's also not healthy. I think a 8-10 lb would be feasible. The "law of diminishing returns" happens with weight loss. You lose a lot in the first 2 months, then it gets tougher to ditch the remaining lbs. But you can do it. ALSO, A WEIGHT LOSS BUDDY REALLY HELPS... they keep you motivated and help keep you "on task". If you want other ideas on what I did you can email me.
Best of luck... and YOU CAN DO IT!
I did find a link to a diet aid... I'll post below...
try not to eat as much as you usually do
drink water
do a lil extra manual labor when you can
you will be surprised to find out how much the little things you do tend to help a lot
Without any will power you will never lose weight. You had better accept the fact that you will probably keep putting on weight because obviously eating is your main hobby in the world.
Find another hobby to replace your eating hobby.
BMI?????
Im wondering what is my BMI, im 11, 5'6, weigh 110pbsAnswers: straight from the Man

I need to lose weight. whats better?
i start working out today. weight 238, height 6'1''..whats better. weights or cardio. need to lose gut..cant run alot due to back surgery, but other wise im healthy. i want to get to 190. which ways faster and healthier..i know dieting part of it. i just dont know whether to use weights or cardio machines. HELPAnswers: The best choice would be to do both weights and cardio. However if you have to chose just one. I would recommend weights. The reason that I would make this recommendation is that weight training burns calories, like carido does, however it also builds lean muscle mass. Lean muscle mass works to raise metabolism, so as you gain muscle, your body burns more calories while resting which in turn when combined with proper diet means that you will lose weight through fat loss.
Cardio may help you to lose weight faster than weight training, however alot of the weight loss will come through loss of muscle hurting your metabolism and making it harder for you to continue to live healthily when you reach your goal weight.
Start walking 30 minutes a day, and gradually work up to 90 minutes a day.
And if you don't think you have 90 minutes a day to spend walking, ask yourself if you have 90 minutes a day to spend hating your life because you're fat.
Good luck.
Commendation for taking the step. My husband is your height and has recently lost 15 pounds. Nothing had worked before (as far as keeping it off) except take self-determined changes that are gradual and that you can and want to keep. I would love to hear your progress. It always helps to have a team. Best of luck!
Why some people are very fat ? are they always seating in their couch and eat and watch tv all day?
Answers: Oh my dear how very little you really know!! NOT all over weight people " are always sitting on the couch and eat and watch TV all day". There happens to be other reasons.
Such as, medicines they have to take, some cause weight gain. Lack of mobility, some people are disabled and cant walk or exercise like they want to due to maybe a severely bad back, maybe they are bound to a wheelchair, depression, which IS a disease can cause weight gain.
I would suggest that you not be so very narrow minded and look up some causes of this problem and not just ASSume what you are!!!
Some have a thyroid problem or a low metabolism
or they just eat fattening foods and then don't burn them off.
of course not!! i seat on the couch and eat and watch tv all day and im thin, lol! seriously, there are a lot of women suffering from this-- could be due to slow metabolism, depression, genetics.. my bestfriend isnt thin, but im very proud of her and i love her like a sister!
Scientist are learning that genetics are the most critical factor in weight.
Everyone has a natural weight. Most people stop gaining weight when they get above 40 pounds their natural weight.
There is something about people who are very obese that makes them gain weight beyond that 40 pounds. We don't know what it is yet.
Of course diet and exercise play an important role in your weight. People who are extremely obese don't go to the gym everyday. But people are complex, and you can't point a finger at a fat person and say they are that way because they sit and eat all day.
I have read most of the other answers as well. Yes there are medical reasons as well. But, they only accounts for a small number of cases.
But we all have seen fat people eat 4 hot dogs and a big sodas for breakfast, half a bag of cookies before lunch, and buffets for lunch, and bag of chip for snacks before dinner and a pizza for dinner. Etc...
Please be honest... count your calories.... Each day we should only consume 2000 calories, less if overweight. A whopper is already 700! an 8 oz soda is 140+.
Most of my obese pts are either consuming tooooooo much calories in the range of 5000-7000 calories. And they did not even realize it. They can not burn the calories because they do not exercise!
Why can't they exercise? Because the fat replaced the muscles= they are too weak to get up and move. They move slower and burn less calories as well because their metabolic rates also slows! Or the excess weight over time has destroyed their knees and back and it hurts too move! That is why it is so hard to loose weight... it is so hard. Not to mention their denials... I am not fat, I am just curvaceous, etc...
This answer is long and perhaps too direct but it's the truth... I am sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings...
Why are people so stupid about the way someone looks?
And what brain injury could cause someone to msspell something so simple as "sitting"?
If your vital stat is 35-29-37..what an you say??
im 5''5 in height..lol..and weights 55 kgs.Answers: I would say you are about average in height and weight. You may need some sit-ups to reduce the waist size, but most people do.
Be yourself, and enjoy life, live it for yourself, and be happy with who you are.
good luck.
ohlalala babe!!great
Am I a hopeless case?
Has anyone outhere listened to the cd of Paul Mckennas- I can make you thin? When he says count backwards from 300 when do you stop? Also, my mind wanders off elsewhere for example- thinking about what jobs I could be doing or what shall I have for tea?
Maybe it's because I find it hard to relax.By the way i'm not that overweight (seriously) I just need to motivate myself.
Answers: you fool
I don't think this type of cd is of any use at all.
They are made purely to make money for the recorder and his company.
Note that he says "I can make you thin" and not "I will make you thin". There is a big difference.
It all comes down to you personally in the end.

No you are not. No-one is a hopeless case. You sound bored to me. As you say you need to motivate yourself, and there's more ways to do this, than count backwards for Paul McKenna. By the way, you stop when you get to zero.
If you need help motivating yourself to loose weight, why don't you go to a local weight watchers group. You'll find one in you're area in you're local paper. If you don't want to go by yourself, do you have a friend that will go with you.
No your not a hopeless case you just seem unable to relax properly that's all, you obviously have other things on your mind, but you need to take the time to relax each day for yourself as that really will help you to get motivated, just for 20 minuets each day find yourself a nice comfy chair, sit down in it and take some deep breaths, just let all your body relax fully, close your eyes gently, don't squeeze them shut, now focus on a place you love been at, ie the beach, a river, don't take your focus away from it, inhale deeply then exhale slowly, do this about 5 times and you should start to feel very relaxed, you will probably feel a bit silly doing this for the first few times, but the more you do it the more relaxed you will become and then you'll be able to focus more on your motivation, good luck and hope this helps.
What does my heartrate need to be at to burn fat?
Im 17, I weigh 56kgs.I lift weights for 45 minutes then run for 25 minutes 3 days a week.
What rate does my heartrate need to be at to burn fat??
Answers: Just run. 25 minutes isn't enough to put that fine a point on it. You are burning fat all the time. The key to getting rid of fat is calorie deficit, i.e., eating less than need for daily activities. Your body turns to stored fat to make up the difference.
Running helps by burning more calories. Run fast, burn more calories, run slow, burn fewer calories.
25 minutes 3 days a week isn't very much. Any noticeable weight loss will come from reducing your food intake.
The weight lifting is good for general fitness, but not a factor in burning calories or weight loss. If you were lifting enough to build significant muscle mass, that would increase your BMR slightly.
Aerobic is usually over 120
Anerobic is usually over 140
Check with your doctor
You're burning fat all the time. Every movement you make burns fat. Your muscles are 'on' (contracting gently and regularly) even while they are 'resting'.
As your level of effort increases (and your heart rate rises), you start to burn more sugar.
'Aerobic' exercise burns more sugar than 'sub-aerobic' activity. 'Anaerobic' exercise burns even more sugar. Burning sugar makes you tired and hungry.
To burn the most fat, you should be as active as possible all the time while you're not 'exercising'. Fatburning movement is effortlessly gentle, and you can keep it up continuously without fatiguing. It doesn't make you hungry.
How dedicated are you about your body image?
are you no a fitness plan that you never fail and always stick to?are you always spending your money to find new products that could be amazing?
on diets and are very strict on yourself?
Answers: not very, i just watch what i eat more for health reasons not for weight issues. I've seen so many people i know spend so much of their lives and money worring about the way that they look. I would rather spend my life dedicated to my family and enjoying it than to waist it trying to stay as skinny as possible, besides most guys like a woman with a little meat on them. I would rather have a man love me for who i am not what i look like. I'm not saying this because I am over weight I am 140 5'6" and just enjoy life.
I'm very dedicated to my fitness plan!I could never skip a work out or anything like that!
I'm constantly buying new make-up!Especially mascara because none of them do what they are ment to!lol
nothing crazy. i have a healthy lifestyle, but im not obsessed... thats just stupid
I am constantly on diets!
I'm very dedicated. I run 25 miles/week and go to the gym 3 times a week. I never skip a work out.
I will say, however, that I do not spend any money on any products. I try to eat healthy, but I love sweets!
yep.
I only got smaller in size!!!!!?
it's more than 3 weeks that I have started eating healthy, no junk food, carbs are limited and most of the time steamed food and some how counting the calorie intake.I watch carefully but no decrease in weight only a little in size.( my jeane got looser).what's wrong with me?Answers: thats normal...dont look for a quick fix...i know it sucks, but the slower it comes off, the slower and harder it is to gain that weight back. Personally I have been dieting and exercising for over a year...I have lost about 60 pounds, so it is not an overnight fix...losing weight too fast is not halthy. I have dieting and exercise tips if you wish as they go and and hand...Losig weight means doing cardio...walk, use the treadmill, go on the elliptical, use the bicycle, don’t lift weight right now because you will just get heavier. Also, you said yuo are eating the right foods, but double check your diet...eat your starchy and sugary foods early as then you give your body a chance to use that energy instead of eating it at dinner and going to bed maybe three hours later. Also, stay ways from anything fried, and fast food, deserts, etc..., eat a ton of lean meats, which is chicken, turkey, fish, and some pork...don’t eat too much red meat, stay away from fatty meats like sausage and salami. Also, try to eat 5-8 smaller meals a day rather than 3 normal sized meals. When you eat more, but smaller meals, it keeps doesn't shock your system like when you eat a big meal, so your metabolism works much better. Lastly, drink only water. I drink 12 bottles a day, it is hard but soda and all that has empty calories and sugar which turns into fat when it is digested. Even diet soda is bad because your body is expecting something from the calories coming in, however they are empty calories with no nutrition and in effect make you hungrier. By the way, if you count calories, or are good at estimating (which is what I do), go onto this web site...it has a calculator that tells you how many calories you need for your size adn how many calories you are burning when you exercise...just click on the tabs on the right hand side... http://www.revolutionhealth.com/calculat... ... Good luck with your weight loss.
Nothing. Your doing everything correctly. You shouldn't measure success by the scale. Your jeans are looser! That is great, that means your lossing fat. Most peole when they diet loss water and muscle.
I've been eating healthy for 6 1/2 weeks now. I go to the gym 6 days a week. I haven't lost any weight, but I feel better, look better, and my cloths are looser. So, it is a success.
Would you agree.? feel passionate about this !!?
in the light of todays government initiative on healthy eating and obesity in children, would you agree that to have a healthy diet you need to be quite well off, fresh fruit and veg everyday costs a fortune and foods which are unhealthy say biscuits and cakes are actually cheaper to buy.. therefore families who are under privelaged have no option to go for the crap that fills their little ones tums and buy the frozen food out of shops like iceland and farmfoods....fresh food is astonomical in price...OBESITY is the fault of the goverment... these foods are full of additives and high fat content,,, no wonder OBESITY is so bad in young children today... If the goverment are so set on getting our nations health in order.. WELL they have the power to lower the price of consumer products and stop the retailer ripping us off... our country has an abundance of food and its sad that only the well off can enjoy it and be healthy...Ive seen poor families and know the struggle they have...Answers: agree
I agree to some aspects of this. Fresh fruit and veg, healthy grain breads etc are quite expensive When you're stapped for cash it's so much easier to opt for the cheap value brand frozen ready meal. But then again what price is good health?. The governments should subsidise this if they truely want to make a difference. In saying that, you can make a good nourishing stew for very little and I always get a couple of days out of that for my family.
I think alot of it is down to lack of education in this area, lots of modern parents can't cook anymore as it's seen as twee to teach cookery in school nowadays, this is something the government should tackle. Children are ferried around from pillar to post so exercise is a forgotten thing aswell.
The days of growing your own are well gone too. A small veg patch and a few fruit frees cost very little compared to what you get back from them. I have a relatively small garden but I still manage to grow carrots, onions, turnips, tomatoes, herbs, apples, berries and plums. Apart from a bit of weeding and general manintenance it costs me next to nothing but It helps my young children to see where their food comes from and to appreciate the value of fresh seasonal food.
My daughter's school also actively promotes eating healthily and getting regular exercise, junk food is banned from lunchboxes. This is important because eating habits are formed at a young age. We need lots more schemes like this and education for both children and their parents.
The 'normal' lifestyle you have described is certainly to blame for the obesity crisis, but not because of the foods that are provided.
Traditional communities around the world rely on a wide variety of diets; some of these are very high in the kinds of nutrient that we are being told to avoid. (Health & dietary advice is one part of the same 'post-industrial' culture that manufactures convenience foods and gym equipment.)
The main difference between healthy traditional cultures and the way we are now forced to live in the 'west', is the amount of activity that daily living involves.
Traditional communities are usually active throughout the day, at a moderate level. Populations famous for their health and longevity, such as the Hunza afghans and the Ligurian italians, live among steep hills. Just walking around in these places needs more energy use than in flatter (or artificially flattened) areas.
In a traditional community, there is usually a lot of manual work to be done. It is not possible to do this work in short, exhausting bursts; you need to work at a level that can be continued all day. Humans evolved in environments where we were hunted, and it would be dangerous to work hard enough to feel fatigue. Exhaustion would leave us vulnerable to predators.
The 'western' approach to fitness assumes that we can be idle (or stationary; it is possible to 'work' hard at a desk, but it is physically immobile work) for most of the day, if we 'make up for it' with brief bursts of fatiguing exercise.
Going to the gym regularly is no substitute for constant activity. Constantly active people have been shown to be better at absorbing the 'right' nutrients from their diet, and at regulating their use in the body. This allows you to 'get away with' eating more of the 'wrong' foods.
Exhausting exercise puts extra strain on your 'recovery' and 'repair' systems, so that your body becomes EVEN MORE sensitive to the kind of diet you eat. So the 'western' approach, combining periods of idleness and overwork, is HELPING the foods you have mentioned to damage our health.
Unfortunately, the government is more easily influenced by the demands of commercial companies (who make money from producing the things our lifestyle depends on, including fattening foods and slimming foods, armchairs and gym equipment), than by the needs of individuals.
Commercial businesses are able to pay for 'lobbying' and 'campaigning', because these activities add to their profitability. Individuals have less freedom to campaign and lobby, and are more easily ignored when they do.
Because they have even less money than others, the poor are a 'consumer category' that is of very little interest to commercial companies, and practically invisible (because they can't do any lobbying and campaigning at all) to the government.
The correlation between poverty and fitness is far more complicated than what you have presented.
First of all, those who are well-off can afford things like gym memberships and such, whereas those who are poor cannot afford this. A TV is less expensive than most home equipment.
Also, many providers of lower-income families must work extra jobs/shifts. It is not that they do not have ACCESS to good nutrition, but that they may not have time to pick out healthy food and prepare a home-cooked meal. Preparing food and cleaning up afterwards can take a considerable amount of time.
There is always the individual's willingness to make lifestyle changes, and many of these set-backs can be reconciled regardless of one's economic status. However, I am inclined to think that when you are struggling to make ends meet, you are less concerned with how you eat than keeping rent and bills paid. Arguably the most important factor in the survival of any creature is shelter, which unfortunately, is likely the bulk of any family's expenses.
It is unfortunate that quality of food must be set lower in the priorities of lower income families, but I have to make it clear that it only applies to the most destitute. Lower-middle class families should not take this as an excuse to be lazy about their nutrition. Unfortunately, it often appears to be the case much of the time, and I think they simply give others a bad name.
I would like to mention this website. It's purpose is to give adults who pay for fitness equipment, gym memberships, a tax credit, thereby easing one's economic burden. After all, the government already spends billions every year on health procedures that can be solved through better weight management.

What is protein shake ?
Heard that protein shake is very good for health. Please tell if anyone knows how it is made? can it be made at home ?Answers: Protein shakes are shakes infused with protein, often in soy, egg or whey form. These shakes are often fruit smoothie-style -- even chocolate flavours are there. In theory, increasing your protein intake increases your chances of losing weight when you're working out.
Should you be consuming protein shakes? If you're a pro athlete, sure, but otherwise it's not really necessary. Adding protein to a smoothie adds calories -- lots of them. If you already have a balanced diet, that extra protein isn't necessary. As for weight-loss, it's a result of decreasing the number of calories you consume, but if you add a bunch of extra calories in the form of a protein shake, that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
Protein shakes can add as much as 200 grams or 300 grams of protein (800 to 1,200 calories) a day. If you don’t need it, the body stores all those extra calories as fat. Also, if these shakes are taking you to the high end of the protein spectrum, you may be increasing health risks—high-protein diets may cause bone loss and kidney damage.
So ya... think before you try protein shake.. If you work out regularly, then its good for you.. You wont feel hungry and can reduce your intake of calories. But if you dont work out then its a bad thing..
I dont think you can make it.. You must order it online or buy from pharmcies.. Hope it helps.. :)
Do Protein Shakes help weight loss?
Perhaps yes. At least this is what the manufacturer and the advertisement says.
What exactly are Protein Shakes?
Protein Shakes are protein supplements. They come packaged in a powder form. It is to be mixed with milk/water in combination with a fruit. It tastes a bit like your fruit smoothie or milkshake.
What type of Protein do they consist?
Most protein shakes are based on Soy Protein. Some shakes may also use Egg Protein or Dairy protein.
How are they expected to help Weight Loss?
Protein Shakes follow the Meal Replacement policy. You are supposed to replace any two of your meals in a day with the protein shake. You have to be careful about what you eat. Avoid the usual fried fatty fast foods, reduce your intake of desserts and ice creams and avoid colas and fizzy drinks. In addition to this, you are expected to drink 8-10 glasses of water every day and spend a minimum of 30 minutes a day exercising or walking. The idea is that if you replace your calorie packed imbalanced meal with a balanced and healthy option you can lose weight.
But what has Protein to do with weight-loss?
The average adult needs 45 to 60 grams of protein a day. A diet balanced with adequate protein and carbohydrates can help build up your muscle mass. An imbalanced diet with less than required protein and more fat and carbohydrates can cause an increase in fat deposition and decrease in muscle mass.
Well, do we have other sources of Protein than Protein shakes?
We do. Milk, Yogurt, Cheese, Eggs, Chicken, Fish, Beef, Lamb, Tofu, Soy and Lentils are excellent sources of Protein.
These are the things we commonly have in our diets. Don’t We?
Precisely. These things meet your daily protein requirements if you consume them in right quantities.
Then why do I need Protein Shakes?
You don’t. You need a balanced diet not Protein Shakes to lose weight. Besides, in addition to this, if you do all that you would have done while taking Protein shakes (avoiding high calorie fattening foods, sweets, desserts and colas, drinking 8-10 glasses of water every day and 30 minutes of exercise daily) you can lose weight.
But people have lost weight using Protein Shakes, haven’t they?
Yes they did. When you cut down on your sumptuous breakfast and limit it to a Protein Shake and when you cut down on your lavish supper and limit it to a Protein Shake, you cannot but lose weight. And you also avoid high calorie foods and exercise daily. All this together, helps you to lose weight.
How much weight do people lose using Protein Shakes?
Protein Shakes claim to reduce your weight by 4-6 pounds a month.
What if I take Protein Shakes to lose weight too?
You can try. They cost you any where between $19-25 per pack. It lasts you for about 20 days. If you wish to invest on Protein Shakes. There’s no harm.
After reaching my target weight, what if I stop taking Protein Shakes?
Losing weight is not about one magic pill or a protein shake or aerobics classes. You’ve got to bring in a huge change in your lifestyle and food habits. You can take the protein shake to lose weight, but your lifestyle may always be in conflict with your weight loss program. If you are an active party goer or a fast food junkie you might have problem keeping up your Protein Shake diet. Even if you manage to keep your lifestyle on hold while you achieve your desired weight target. What after that? You cannot really keep taking Protein shakes all your life, can you? After losing weight, there would be no reason for you to continue. Result? You will be back to your old lifestyle, old eating habits, no exercise and no watching your food anymore.
So that means I may gain weight back again if I stop taking Protein Shakes?
Indeed. If you have a huge weight loss target to achieve, like 30-60 pounds, then forget Protein Shakes, they wont be able to keep your motivation up for long. You are likely to discontinue midway through. If you have a small weight loss target to achieve well within 20-25 pounds. You can give it a shot. But remember, if you quit do not immediately get back to your old habits and old lifestyle. Even if you stop taking protein shakes, do not stop exercising daily and watching your food. Remember weight loss is all about changing lifestyle and food habits.
